Whoa, FoxyKaye--you are a customer service rock star! I'm totally going to use all of those lines...well, maybe not the one about the superdrive.

On a sidenote, I don't suppose your laptop might be covered by your home insurance? When I called my insurance company to add my laptop they told me that all laptops under $2000 were automatically covered. I still had to add mine as it was MacBook Pro, but if it had been a MacBook it would have been covered without me adding it as a named item.

Be careful about claims against homeowners insurance, as a canceled policy is hell. I've got my computers and camera equipment covered on a "personal professional property" plan (I use them for business purposes) that basically covers almost anything except floods and terrorism in some cities. Mine's an unscheduled policy, but many agents offer 'inland marine' policies at great rates that'll cover loss, damage, etc. You'll have to check with an agent about the level of misfunction that'll trigger a valid claim, but for everyone reading this it's worth considering.

The first time I took it to the Emeryville Apple store and had such a horrific experience I wrote a three page letter to corporate. In a week I had a replacement drive sent to me and in a month a new iPod Shuffle with an apology.

Where did you get Apple's corporate address?

Well, an update for anyone still interested.

I e-mailed Steve Jobs with a brief and polite e-mail summarizing the problem and requesting to be taken at my word. The next day I received (actually, missed) a call from Robin Roberts, from the Executive PR team asking to speak with me about the problem. Since then, I've been unable to reach her and I'm guessing that her absence has something to do with the Texas branch being closed down.

In the meantime, I've put in a couple calls to AppleCare. The first representative was extremely polite, put me on hold while she went through my "notes", and then returned trying to convince me that it was time to come clean and give up. She made a number of factual errors (for example, "It appears as though the liquid got in through the keyboard via the key that has been removed," I removed a couple keys after my keyboard stopped working, which was only the most recent problem). I was told that pictures had come back, they were pretty incriminating, and that they had been sent to my e-mail address (they have the correct one) yesterday at 10:30am (5 days after requesting them). I haven't gotten an e-mail with any pictures yet so far.

During my second call, the representative explained that it's being looked into, there are pictures attached to my file, and that it's pretty high up. She was the one who told me about the Texas problem and told me to just sit tight. So that's where I'm at. Still completely in the dark, but I guess I'm making some progress?

Update?

Dodus - can you tell me if there was a resolution to your situation?

I just found out that my mac had moisture in it and they're claiming that I tried cleaning it with window cleaner. I don't even own window cleaner and there was no spill. They are sending it to their tech people for a second opinion, so I'm curious what I'm in for.

Thanks.
