Why buy new, if what you have meets your needs, eventually, we need to get a second computer here, but I honestly have never cared if I have the absolute latest, as long as it does what I need ti to do and is going to do so for some time to come, why worry about it? I almost always buy one generation older at MacMall, as when the new generation of any Apple product comes out, they sell the previous one at a substantial discount, for example I got my wireless Mighty Mouse for $19 as I recall and the only difference that I could find was that they changed the color of the side buttons.

Yea I think of relisting it every now and then, but the current offerings apple has just aren't that different for me to go through all that work :p I will probably get more RAM/bigger HD before I completely sell it.

Do you have a newer uMB with one of the "better" screens? If my screen wasn't so bad, I wouldn't worry about the upgrade. When I first got it, I didn't think it was that bad..but after seeing some of the screens from the silent update and now the new uMBP 13" there is definitely a noticeable difference.

I dont know really. I purchased it in mid-November. Even if it is the "lower end" screen, it is still the crispest/clearest screen in my house :p

I know the machines at the Store get abused but everyone I know that has the 15 when I pick it up and tilt it toward me the screen flips closed I guess mainly due to the weight, however I am really not impressed with the new ones in fact more then likely I will be going for an early 2009 15" uMBP with the 2.66/4/320 and Dual GPU's. I think they are the bet bang for your $ considering when I bought my uMB 2.4/2/250 it was $1599 and the uMBP 2.53 was $2499, but after 6-8-09 everything dropped. I do not need the SD slot, the battery would be nice but cant justify nearly $800 more for it, and I can buy my own 500GB HDD cheaper.

It will be interesting to see what the new version of the uMBP's will be like but for now even the low end specs are still better then most PC's, but if you configure one at Dell or HP with similar specs to the uMBP 15 you will find the price is almost similar.

OP, I personally think you are making a smart decision. ;)

I have noticed the same thing about the 15'' uMBP... I did research on my own in early of 2009 after my IT director at work was complaining & complaining that he had a tough time with the screen closing when he viewed his laptop while sitting on the couch at home. It's true!!! - The screen closes like a "clamshell" at a certain angle. This isn't every 15"/17" uMBP, but a lot have this annoyance. Other Macs are better than others, but on the whole... There is a malfunction of the hinge, or lack of R&D!

I think Apple needs to do a better job on their hinges for their bigger models. I would be pretty upset if I spent 2G's on a laptop that has a huge annoyance like my co-worker did...
