I find it curious that there is no base model that includes the 2.26 Ghz processor. That means that you can't buy it at an Apple retail store. I'm sure this is a deliberate choice and not an oversight, but it makes no sense to me. Two additional configurations in the retail stores seem a no-brainer: 2.26 Ghz with base RAM and HD, and fully loaded (4GB RAM and 320Gb drive). The latter configuration being absent from the stores is especially puzzling - the margins on that setup have got to be huge. You would think they would cater to the person that wants the best, is willing to pay to get it that way in the box, and wants it today.

The availability at online authorized dealers is sparse as well. The only one I've found that is selling the 2.26 model is MacMall/ClubMac, and even there, it's not yet clear if it will be stocked or is a special order. I'll wait and see if they actually stock it. I'm not thrilled to order from them, but if I'm forced to order over the web, I might as well save on the sales tax.

If they'd have had a Mac Mini configuration with 2.26GHz stock and 4GB RAM then they wouldn't have sold it for anything less than $999/£799. That would probably have caused uproar in the Mac community and with all the reviewers around the world, especially when the 20" iMac sells for only $200/£150 more.
