Divide Portrait Document in half

I want to divide a pages documant thats portrait in half from top to botto on my mac so there's 2 colums only 1 is at the top and the other is at the bottom.Does anyone have any ideas please.I tried a line through but I dont know how I get yi half way down.

OK well to get a rule half way down the page you need to show the rulers - cmd R - and drag a horizontal guide down to sit half way down the page. Then you'll need to create a text box in the top half and another in the bottom half, see image.

Great thanks, I guessed you'd have to use text boxes , . Its a pity that all word processors don't work along the same lines, becaue I'm certain I tried this with Word on a Windows PC years ago and didn't need text boxes! Still never mind. Thanks for the help wit the diagram to.

you don't have to use text boxes you could just type directly onto the page and treat your top and bottom sections like two paragraphs with an extra large space in between. But every time you altered the 'top' half you'd have to adjust the position of the 'bottom' half if you see what I mean.
