Can you record mixes you made using Spotify tracks?

----------

Did you change countries at some point in your iTunes account? Makes you lose all your purchase history (music, TV, movies, apps...) and it is an absolute shame. If the paid app is still on the AppStore though, I think it doesnt make you pay for it again. But if it is not accessible to everybody anymore, you are screwed. I really hated that bad experience with Apple when I moved over to a new country.

Don't think so. No.

Apple doesn't need Beats to do this. They could have just bought Djay/Spotify and saved a few billion dollars. Or done it themselves.

Agreed... This is super cool.
But lets give it the benefit of doubt.. Maybe there is something more to the beats deal than meets the eye !?
I sure hope so !

I am sure the german copyright collecting agency also known as content nazis will love this ... charging 1 euro (exaggerating) for each play of a song at the club while also charging a fee for each laptop used cuz you could potentially have copyrighted material on it.

cool app though, might check it out just for fun

I switched from Spotify to Deezer recently, mainly because they have a 50% bigger catalogue, but it doesn't hurt that it's half price for the first six months as well. So while it's great that developers are seeing the possibility of integrating with streaming services, Spotify may be the biggest brand but they aren't the only game in town, or even necessarily the best service.

Cool app...but anyone advertising themselves as a DJ with this app is a complete liar because the app is doing 100% of the work. It would be like calling yourself a professional dish washer even though all you did was load the dishwasher (machine) and hit Run and came back an hour later. The app would probably flourish as a non-dj service...meaning something you pay for and turn it on when you have a long car ride or a BBQ but of course are not paying a "dj" to turn it on for you. :)

Just as random guys with a copy of Photoshop never replaced professional graphics designers, and an uncle with a DSLR camera never replaced professional wedding photographers, DJs have nothing to be worried about this. If you're a good DJ, this can only help you as CDJs have. If you're bad, well perhaps it's time to get better rather than being worried about this app.

You said exactly what I was about to say. DJs complaining about this are just showing their insecurities. As a photographer, video editor and a DJ I have been through respective profession’s transition to becoming more accessible. The average and insecure “professionals” are the one’s that feel threatened by new technology making things easier and more accessible. The ones secure in their skill set not becoming obsolete shut up and look at how new technology can be adopted to enhance such skill set.

Not many vinyl DJs po po CD-Js these days, but they sure did when it was in its infancy. So will it go with digital DJing.

The incredible creative opportunities and mobility a setup with djay or Traktor on an iPad plus a professional controller like the Reloop Beatpad or even the Z1 affords sure as hell beats lugging milk crates of vinyls and tons of equipment or hope the club has the decks and mixers you are accustomed to.

Smart people recognise the future when they see it, adapt and move on.

For the record, this is a somewhat disappointing update. You can neither record nor perform publicly with Spotify, negating the entire feature save for music discovery or private parties. Professional DJs who have to follow the law get nothing in this update save for a few purchasable FX and a sound set.

Where’s Match for your internal library? Where’s Camelot keys? And for that matter, what about the Mac version?

I'm a professional club, bar and radio DJ for 19 years and I've purchased this app and an iPad to add to my existing setup. I agree with the above posts - you could give someone every song in the world that doesn't make them a good DJ at all. Fundamentally DJing is about reading a crowd and song selection. No app can do that for you, yes I'm also a mixing DJ but that comes next in the list to what I already mentioned. If you can't read a crowd and pick the right tracks no amount of mixing is going to save you. This app gives you an amazing amount of music at your finger tips but if you don't know what to play or when and are relying on an app to tell you then you are in the wrong line of work. But in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing this has amazing potential. I have yet to road test it but love knowing I can put together some Spotify lists and they are there to go via the venue's wifi or tethering via my phone. It would never replace my main rig (purely as you are relying on Wifi or data connections) but is an excellent addition in my opinion.

However, the person owning/holding the iPad with this integration is NOT A DJ by any stretch of the imagination...they are simply turning on the iPad, and hitting Play and walking away for 6 hours. Literally.

Spoken like a man protecting his territory from a amateurs.

No Spotify with AudioBus

On iOS Djay 2 will not play Spotify music if used in AudioBus. Nowhere in the path to purchase was this stated. That's deceit. Off to work on getting a refund.
