Just a short solution for those who're getting "Unsupported format" while playing .mkv files with EyeConnect to Samsung TV's: just rename .mkv to .avi and it works fine!

Still having problem with connection dropping after few minutes though :(

By the way just wanted to post my conclusions after I spent 4 days picking the best DLNA server software for streaming to Samsung LED TV.

It's Serviio. I've tried them all I think. And only Serviio works like it should and has _special_ profile for Samsung C/D-Series TV's.

I tried Serviio at the first day of my researches and uninstalled it right ahead because it looks not so "mac-like" (it's written in Java). After complete disaster with other programs I've came back to Serviio since it has really good user-supporting community. Spent may be 20-30 minutes to learn and understand it anv viola! It works! All formats, no disconnects and even time-based forward/rewind.

Based on my experience it's the only prog that makes it!

Does anyone know what type of hard drive formatting Samsung TVs support? I tried attaching a Mac OS Extended formatted drive to it and it didn't recognize it.

Vuze as DLNA server for Samsung TVS

I have had very mixed results with Samsungs DLNA client. My best results have been with Vuze. You need to enable DEVICES.

You can drag and drop files into the DEVICE area(in the MAC and Windows version - not supported in Linux) from the Download area or from FINDER or DESKTOP and Vuze will transcode files to a format that will play over DLNA and they will be available for your device in the Samsung Allshare area. Vuze is very good at transcoding files for my Iphone and adding the files to my Itunes library. I usually add files to my Itunes device, and after they are added, drag them over to my Samsung UN46D6500 Device in Vuze where they don't seem to need any more processing.

I have attached an NTFS external drive to the powered USB port on the tv, and it seems to work fine, but I cannot use record/pause functions. If I try it offers to reformat my drive. I assume to FAT. I haven't tried FAT since it does not allow larger files (4GB - isos and MKV files).

For me It works with PS3 Media Server

This is great that you got this working. I'm about to by an 8000 series and have been reading up on the DLNA functionality. I have a question for you...are you connected to the Internet via a wired, or wireless connection?

First the hardware list
Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router (from Wai-Mart expensive but worth it every penny)
Mac Pro 5.1 System 10.6.8
Samsung BD-D5700 (wireless connected)
A normal TV (hopefully it will be soon a Samsung UN6000).
WD USB ext Hard drive
I connected the ExtHD to the the Router that has DLNA capabilities. I can see on the Mac all the files.
Then i used "PS3 Media Server" software (it is free)
http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/downloads/list
downloaded installed on the Mac and of course it says that does not see any PS3 (Thanks God cause i hate killing people even if it is fictional). It does not matter that u don't have PS3! I selected in "Navigation/Share Settings the shared folder "WD USB ext Hard drive" with the photo/video/music. Now it is very important that when you go to "transcoding Settings" in section "Misc Options" u click "Definitely disable subtitles" and "Skip transcode for the following extensions (comma separated)" you write; m4v, mp3, vob, jpg and all the file's extensions that you r interested (let Samsung do the transcoding). And turn on the Tv and the BD and you have all the files.

Good luck (and remember 70% of the brain is water)

eyeconnect

I use eyeconnect...works brilliantly cept ive been having issues where the movie skips to the next one half or 3/4 way through the one im watching.

Dont think its to do with eyeconnect but more a nfs thing.

TvMobili is what im using on my samsung via the netgear powerline kit to go wired. using it on 2 different samsung's and it works pretty good at most all formats. the main one I use allot is MKV formatted movies so I dont have to transcode them.

Hi all, just downloaded TVMobili. I have Samsung Smart TV, BluRay DVD player, Mac OS X 10.6.8 and joined it all up with Samsung WI Fi USB dongle.I use a Linksys wireless router.
Set up was simple, picked up the router immediately. Was able to open Youtube etc and all good.
You do need to close the firewall. And of course add the folders you want to be able to see from on the TV.
All working perfectly. As a bonus, I downloaded the iPhone Samsung remote App. It controls , FF, Rewind, volume, pause etc.
Only thing I have not figured is ,I have a cable and some USB pieces from the Samsung USB kit, that I cannot figure out what they are for. Any ideas.
Thanks for all the help from previous contributors. without them I would be still in the dark!!

I use this DLNA Server software (link below) - free and works over my network of 3 mac's and a Western Digital Live. This is using a wired network, could not be bothered getting the Samsung dongle.

If you like it, donate - I did, he does good work.

After months of using TVMobili I switched to serviio because I had some playback issues with it. Serviio works absolutely great, highly recommenable :)

Hi, downloaded serviio, and it works fine but having same issue as with TV Mobili, i.e. Fast Forward and replay don't work. Using the Samsung DVD remote at that. Also tried the Samsung TV remote and no joy.
even more frustrating is that it seems to drop the wirless link intermittently.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I am about to go back to using USB memory stick for viewing movies, however, before I give up , can anyone suggest a solution here? So far I have tried Eyeconnect, Serviio, and TVmobili, and I am still having an issue whereby the wireless connection drops between the Samsung DLNA dongle and the Mac. I can use Smarthub, perfectly, watch Youtube clips , and no disconnections. So problem seems to be with settings on the Mac.
Any ideas?

Got 2 Samsung TVs UN40D6000, UN46D6000. Bought two ethernet to wireless convertor (cheap type once N type wireless), this made the TV wireless and connect to my wireless network without those crappy expensive samsung dongles. Have an imac with Vuze where i download my mkv movies, in vuze i drop the mkv file onto the relevant TV icon. Goto whichever samsung, select the source as the imac with Vuze, select downloads directory and select film, plays 1080p mkv 10GB+ files flawlessly. I have found the connection to drop sometimes, only since I upgraded Vuze and only playing large movies. if it ever got to bad i just use my MBP HD connected to the TV and connect to my imac over the wirelss, but 95% of the time i've no issue with Vuze

I just bought the same TV, how do you use wireless with out the Samsung wifi stick?

Testing a few

For a setup of OSX 10.7 and a Samsung series 8 I have installed and tested the following, trying to watch a film from a NAS drive on the home network on the TV:
Serviio
Elgato EyeConnect
TVMOBiLi
MediaShare (possibly useful for Xbox. Didn't work for watching movies)
Twonky

I didn't like Twonky and Serviio. The Elgato and TVMOBiLi had an much friendlier user interface, but the TVMOBiLi was better - more specific control on media libraries, and an ability to add more locations. Also, the Elgato simply drops of the network every once in a while, and without fast forward function in any of these, it means you have to run the movie from the start.
Bottom line - TVMOBiLi works best for me at this time. It would be nice if there were fast forward capabilities to it

With the use of vuze you can fast fwd using the samsung tv remote iPhone app.

Tried a load of DLNA/UPnP server software on my father's iMac running OS X 10.6.8.
NullRiver MediaLink - didn't work; really unfortunate, as I liked it's UI and options, but practically NONE of the files I tried worked for me. Found out that it actually only supports PS3.
TvMobiLi - Worked until after restart of Mac; became unstable on server end after restarting Mac and therefore is unusable on the long run.
Vuze - Works but seems VERY limited on which file types can be played (only MP4) and controls (Pause/FF/Rewind) do not work.

Don't know what software to try now. Guess I'll try EyeConnect and Serviio and maybe Playback. Don't know about Rivet because it has now been discontinued. If I'd be doing this for myself, I'd long since have given up on DLNA altogether, but my dad doesn't seem to be convinced to that level just yet.

The BluRay player used is a Samsung BD-C6500. Any suggestion are welcome.

Stuttering playback

Hey all.
Got a 46" LED Samsung the other day, and have been fiddling around trying to make the most of it. Great machine!

However; I've been unable to get it to recognize my external harddrive (which is kinda odd since it's a Samsung company :p it's a Seagate 3 TB). I've formatted it NTFS which according to the manual should mean it's a done deal (tried doing the same to smaller drives like a 8 GB flash and it worked like a charm) but it's no go when plugging it into the dedicated USBHDD-port as well as the other USB port intended for flash drives. Also tried it on the Samsung BluRay player, but it too did not recognize it.

So I went hunting for a streaming solution. Tried all the ones listed here, but got nowhere with anyone except Vuze. I like it a lot *but* I can *not* get it to work as flawlessly as I see reported here. Ordinary DivX are no problem, but as soon as we move up quality-wise it's not perfect anymore. 720p has some stutter issues (small audio/video hiccups that aren't a catastrophe, but really annoying and disturbing), and 1080p stutters even more. Can be fine for several minutes and then suddenly hiccup a lot; there's no predictability in it. Some files can't even be played for more than half a minute (like my Jurassic Park 22GB) before it stops and reports device unconnected.

This behavior is repeated regardless of if the file being streamed is on an internal harddrive, my SDD or an external one. It doesn't matter if the computer is doing nothing else than running Vuze, or downloading / working on other things at the same time.

I'd really like some guidance as to what I need to do to either get a smooth streaming solution up and going (presently running wired LAN via router) and/or a HDD based one. The HD I mentioned (3 TB) has external power supply, and I hear it spin up when connected to the TV/DVD so I know it's trying to communicate - for some reason it just won't hook up.

Help :D

Problems using VUZE as my DLNA server w/ my Samsung TV

Hey guys,

My wife and I just bought a Samsung 40" LED Smart TV not long ago, so I'm very new to this! I've had Vuze (formerly known as Azureus) for many years, using it as a bit-torrent client. So... I'm very familiar with this program, *except for the "Devices" & DNLA streaming! I am also having almost the EXACT same issues as "Filmtoken"! However, I'm running wireless with the Samsung Link-Stick. No matter how many different configurations I've tried, I'm not able to play anything for longer than about 15-30 seconds without it just dying on me, getting the same "Device Disconnected" message!

My set-up: I'm running Vuze as my DLNA server, Samsung UN40D6000 TV, Linksys Wireless-N Router (WRT15ON), iMac OS X 10.6.8, and a Lacie 1TB External Hard drive. I've also tried using our Samsung Blu-Ray player (BD)D5700, and I still have the same issue!

I have been searching the net constantly, and messing with this crap for the past several days and I'm seriously about to go insane!

Any advice? Help!! (Please!) -I truly appreciate any & all ideas!
Thanks in advance!

Easy, you don't use the samsung wireless, you use the ethernet port. Use a short ethernet cable, plug one end into the tv the other into an ethernet to wifi convertor (N type) and setup the convertor to connect to your wifi network. Tv thinks your ethernet connected..the wifi adaptors you can pick up for 20$ per tv anywhere, got mine at microcenter. The are also powered by the tv USB. Works perfect on 3 samsung tvs and can stream to them all from vuze on imac or mbp snow leopard.

Guys you can use TVMOBiLi, its amazing a free*. I am using it with my MBP 2011 (Early, 15") and Samsung 55" LED, works like a charm!

Also its free for the first month, then free upto 10 GB streaming!

Hope it works out for you people!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I am on a wireless network.

+1 for Serviio

+1 for Serviio

I've tried several solutions and serviio was the only one that I managed to get working flawlessly with my 40D5500 - it took a bit of setting up and it seems to take a little while to index and build the library but it works with MKV files with AAC, AC3 or DTS audio!! Usually I could only get some of these files to play via USB, but they play fine over my cat5 LAN.

Now I don't have to do any transcoding or muxing to get these working - I can just download files straight to my server's* library folder and have Serviio update the library every few minutes - finally!!! yes!!!!!

*Server powered by a low power Intel atom 330 running OS X 10.62

HDD Streaming via Router

Hello, I have a Western Digital connected to an AirPort Extreme and I can open the content in my Macbook Pro via wifi.
I was wondering how could I do this same thing but instead of doing it in my Mac; doing it in my TV (a Samsung 55-D8000)
Thanks!
