I know, but I suspect an LCD is good for a longer time than a CRT if the backlights are replaced.
Assuming that when the backlight dies, it's feasible and cost effective to do so, yes. A CRT TV itself is so much cheaper than an LCD that if you don't care about wall mounting or space or weight, it's worth a serious look.

Two 32" CRT HDTVs: $1000
One 32" LCD TV: $900 + ($300 - $600 backlight replacement)=$1300-1500

There are lots of reasons not to want a CRT HDTV, but lifespan isn't one of them. If LCD prices continue to fall considerably, it might become a more relevant factor in several years.
