A very strange thing is happening to me. I have a DMG .spareimage encoded with pasword. I can open it because I remember the password, but I can not make changes because it is locked in writing as in the icon on the bottom left. It seems that this has happened since:
- I had the DMG protected by a special command in the Get Info window
- I opened the DMG with the correct password
- realizing that the DMG was locked in writing, without expelling the volume, from Finder I removed the protection from Get Info
but nothing to do, the volume remains only reading. It was useless to eject the volume, reopen it, unlock it, relock it. Nothing!

What should I do?

I would think the easiest thing to do would be to use hdiutil to convert its format to something that is not write only, then back to sparse if you need it as such.

OK. But according to you, what happened? Is it possible that, by simply clicking on Protect from Finder on the DMG, everything has jammed? It had never happened to me.

To be honest, I really have no guess as to how it could have happened. Maybe if I had experienced it first hand I would have better insight....Sorry.

Solved! I do not know how it happened, maybe a click too much, but the DMG in the Sharing & Permission section had for my user the option "Read only"... I had focused instead on the Lock function!
