I do use my Performa 630CD with 68040 processor every weekday at work, for drafting documents, developing layouts and diagrams. It's way more productive than either M1 iMac or Windows 10 PC on either side of it because it's not busy distracting me with unwanted rubbish like email or notifications, and gives me software tools that do exactly what I want and are not stuffed with features I have no need for. Or bloatware in general.
Up until about 10 years ago, I used 680x0 Macs for productivity. Even though most people thought I was crazy! But I liked the software better--it struck a good balance between having features I actually used, without being bloated and slow. And I suspect that not having the distraction of the Internet on that Mac was probably helpful, too.

I now use one computer for everything...but I sometimes toy with the idea of going back to a 2 computer model.

The thing I like about era-appropriate software for vintage systems like my 630CD is that it is typically targeted on what I need it to do, because it predates the point where bloat began to add complexity and features. Back then, system architecture and hardware resources couldn't support much else.

In practical terms, it means software doesn't get in my way, so I can work far more efficiently and productively, on a platform which isn't distracting to use due to almost literally, all the bells and whistles of a modern OS. It means I can rough out proposals and technical documentation, plan out deployment strategies or create training materials far faster and with far less need to perform wholesale edits in polishing up later.

Not just the internet, though that is certainly a big issue for a range of reasons, but not having to do mental battle with a system which is overloaded with features and settings choices which are increasingly obstructive to find and use.

8.1 on a 630, or even 7.1 on a PowerBook 180, make for much more cooperative systems.

iCal is now running daily on a PowerPC Mac that I am driving. Newer devices don't drive so well:

Up until 3 weeks ago when I had a disc problem the 1.8Ghz G5 was in daily use
It had all of my email accounts on it plus all of forums that I could get to run .
IT also has Adobe CS 2 which is my main photo editing app, Filemaker 7 & 9 & Quark express.
So it was my lifestyle machine that I can turn or or leave off till I have time to do stuff on it .
People tend to forget that technology is here to serve us not the other way round.
I have customers who get quite agitated when I let the phone ring out if I am talking to them face to face
For business I had been using the G3 tower which is about to get the heave ho. any one in Sydney want it for free ?
It is closest to the kitchen so it was a case of making a cuppa then sitting down, opening the mail & doing the bookwork
It also does my invoicing .MYOB still processes faster than I can type and I know how to use it efficiently.
I do not do any internet banking so it is just used to generate invoices , do the general accounting and reconsile the bank statements + inventory control .
However that will go to the G4 quicksilver a soon as I get some new drives for it.
The G4 has a couple of cards Sata & IDE Soft Raid and again I own all of the softwear , the apps do all I need them to do & having used then for over 10 years I am quite proficient with them.
I do a couple of web pages and page mill 4 is perfect as it codes in HTML 2 so my pages download very very fast [ www.bsanational.org.au ]
Much like every other app now days web pages seem to be filled with scripts that do little but take forever to download & run .
There is a 2011 Imac running 10.11 off a thunderbold external enclosure with an SSD in it that is primarily used for web browsing & government email accounts.
I suppose I should explain I use 12 email addresses so I can compartmentalize my life and all of the email clients are set to only download only on request .
Each account is used exclusively for a single purpose so when I get a very correct looking email from my bank, on an email address they do not know about I know is is a scam , ditto for government departments & medicals .
The email address I used to join this forum is used exclusively for forums and has a rule to put all messages directly in the trash I have another one used for all of the sticky beak organizations that demand an email address .
There is also no face book, instagram, twitter etc .
I really can not see the benefit of being in contact with a pile of other people 24/7 and having them repost some trash from commercial media to me 57 times a hour .
I have a radio,if I want to hear the news I can listen for myself .
