Do Apple ship iPods/iPhones with screen protectors already on?

I just received my replacement iPod touch from AppleCare as my old one had died, and noticed this new one has a screen protector on it. One of those clear adhesive films which usually come with cases to protect the touch screen. I thought it was a bit unusual that Apple had sent me a new iPod with one already on it, because I don't remember my original one having one on it. (a nice surprise nonetheless) Is this what they're doing with all new iPod touch's and iPhones now?

Check the serial numbers on the iPod touch.

When Apple receive the faulty iPod, they just box a new one and ship it back.

It's probably a refurbished model which someone forgot the take off the protector of the previous owner.
When you submit your iPod to Apple due to fault, it is highly unlikely you will receive a 'brand new' iPod in replacement.

Likelihood is you just received a refurbished model.

To answer the specific question you asked - Yes, the touches come with a protective screen cover.
