Just received some iPhone app updates today and in the notes section several of them mentioned that there were bug fixes for the companion Apple Watch app as well.

My question is about the Apple Watch app getting updated with the new version - does this happen automatically as soon as the iPhone app is downloaded to the phone? Or is this some setting that needs to be activated?

I do have the General > Automatic App Install setting turned on - is this required?

Really curious how to determine if an Apple Watch app that was already installed on the watch gets updated.

Thanks in advance.

When you update the app on your phone the watch is updated so to speak. You have to remember that most of the app resides on the phone not the watch. But next time you get a bunch of apps to update open the watches app page then tap update on your phone and you'll see some change to install icons.
