Last night, my MBP wouldn't boot up, it would get to the part with the grey Apple logo, then the spinning gear would just freeze. I ran the Apple Hardware Test, which didn't show any errors. I tried "Repair Disk" in Disk Utility from the restore disk, but that didn't work, so I had to resort to doing an Archive and Install. It's back up and running for now (although the whole thing locked up while I told it to "Verify Disk" while I did other things). It sounds like a bad disk to me, but since I'm still getting used to a Mac, anybody want to give me some advice?

On the subject, has anyone whose MBP is minorly dented from a fall had any problems getting warranty service because of it?

If your still under warranty/AppleCare, I'd take it into an Apple Store and see what they say. As far as the dent, I wouldn't worry about it too much, the guys at apple seem to be pretty relaxed.
