I've been waiting, and continue waiting, to buy my first intel machine. Have ordered CS3 though.
I do mainly heavy photoshop work and would often have illustrator, acrobat working at the same time. I don't do multimedia or gaming.
So is there any benefit of 8 cores over 4 for me? would I be better of spending the extra cash on ram?

    cheers

No, unless you are running multiple instances of each of those applications at any given time. In most cases, you will not see a benefit that outweighs the cost of moving to the Ocho.

go for the ram (unfortunately pricey). 4 cores should be plenty!
