My experience. . .

2007- - -First smartphone I've ever own (iPhone)
2008- - -Bought my first Mac

Currently- - -I'm either going to buy the latest MBP or just wait it out for the newer ones (Which I should anyways)

I never looked back into the PC world. Will it enhance your experience absolutely, I'm glad I made the switch!

You do realize you're on a site called macrumors, right? What do you expect?
To answer the OP, I used an iPhone with XP. When my computer died, I decided to get a mac, because I was not going to use Vista.
The iPhone is part of the integrated Mac experience. If you like to jailbreak, you'll find there's a lot more programs for Mac (and better ones in my estimation). If you know that you'll need certain Windows programs, there's boot camp (dual boot option) and the virtualization options (e.g., VMware Fusion, etc). You should check out the Mac threads about the advantages.
There should probably be more Windows to Mac switchers on this thread. A user who's only got experience with Windows can't tell you anything. It's like asking a virgin to describe sex. ;)
Nothing against Macs but this thread is a little too one sided.

They just refreshed them in April. All people I've chatted with have said this is buy time.

I know but then this came out and that'll be even better. I need as much as I can get for my music production.

I come here too much

Whenever you buy an electronic, specifically computers, the next generation is going to be faster, brighter, and yes tempting.

Everyone "needs as much as they can get", but in reality wouldn't notice the difference until the two models rendered processes next to each other.

I asked the salesman at my local MacMan store if there was a noticeable difference between a 2.26 and a 2.4, or a 2.4 and a 2.6 and his reply was,
"no, not really" This is from a man whose job is to tell me how much greater the next would be.

It reminds me of the people who are "waiting for the iphone 5" because "just think what THAT will be like"

They are all great products, and sitting around waiting for the greater product will leave you missing out on the current features. You can always trade up.

You will not need a new Mac computer but having one definitely does enhance having an iPhone for with it's great intergration using Mobile me which syncs your phones contacts, notes etc with the Mac. If you could afford it, buy one. Besides that You can utilize all of the iPhones features with your current computer using iTunes.

Hmmmm, slightly misinformed since you can just install the MobileMe client on a Windows PC and achieve the same thing.

My opinion:

If you want a Mac, go for it. You can run Windows in BootCamp, or under a virtual machine, so your old applications will move to the new machine.

Consider this: You spend your time using a Mac for what you want to do (browse the Web, play games, write stuff). With Windows, it may be cheaper, but because so much malware targets the OS, you spend a lot of time cleaning up viruses and even reinstalling. Macs are not perfect, but you don't have to spend a good amount of time cleaning out malicious software.

If you take a lot of videos and pics with your iPhone, then Mac OSX has the best native application to pull them off of the phone onto your computer. It's called Image Capture, and after seeing countless threads about people with Windows wanting to do the same, I am thankful for the ease of use with the app.

Also, if you have Mac with Garageband, ringtones are a snap. Drag any MP3 into GB, cut it to your liking, then SHARE with iTunes and you are done.

Also, using iPhoto to organize pics is invaluable with it's association with IOS4. Much easier to organize photos on the phone now.

Just a few of the pluses.

Only ran it on xp and vista. What specs and how much content?

AMD Athalon II X2 M300 processor
500GB hard drive
4GB RAM

I have a little over 60 GB of music and videos.

I love that computer. It has an HDMI output, so it looks outstanding when I connect it to my HD television. I bought that laptop brand new from Best Buy, and it was under $500. I like Macs, but they're not worth over double the price...especially when you're only getting the basic model for $1000.

ETA: I've run iTunes on Vista before too, and I don't reccommed that. It DID take forever to open with Vista.

I use a new MacBook Pro because I have a slight preference for OS X. In addition I also use a PC. In the last five years of very intense usage, I've not experienced any down time due to viruses, malware, worms or other attacks. The Windows OS has been stable fast & reliable. Not a single BSOD. the point? Simple, a computer, any computer is a complex machine. When properly setup & optimized they all run well. In our largely negative society it's in vogue to point fingers, bash the competition, and play the victim.

Yet when one chooses to take responsibility learn what they are doing, the results can be very satisfying.
