instead of spending money for the sake of spending money, why don't you take that $1000, put it in the bank, earn some interest, and take it out when you actually need a new computer.

I think if you have trouble convincing your parents, then you probably don't need one.

Now when you are in college...that's another story. And gaming on a low end macbook = probably not the best idea.

These two posts summarize my thoughts fairly well.

At this stage in your life OP, you don't "need" a laptop. You might perhaps say you want one or desire one or wouldn't mind having one, but to claim that a laptop is somehow necessary is a bit hyperbolic.

You already have a computer and you should be quite satisfied with that at this point in your life. Even if you have "earned" the money needed to buy a macbook, it doesn't mean you should buy a macbook. With that sum of money, you can save the vast majority of it and still have some left over for some fun times with friends/girlfriends/boyfriends/whomever. Don't be too absorbed in technology to the point where you forget that there's still a world out there to see, enjoy, and experience.;):)

I am 22 getting my second Bachelor... and now I am thinking about getting one... just to use for school... it is expensive and not really great for gaming in my opinion... you will probably need the money to upgrade again in a few years once you hit college and this macbook might not fit your needs... so spend your money wisely... plus... if you have a pc for gaming... then just use that... it should be enough for everything u need at your age... I'm running a custom built one for gaming and school right now... :)

Before you get one, try and think of reasons why you need one. If your current computer actually suits your needs, no sense in getting a new one. But if you have valid reasons, then your parents should get you one.

I had valid reasons, so my parents decided that it would be a good investment to get me one.

But if I didn't have good reasons, and my current desktop was working fine (stable) and was able to get the job done, then I'd bet my parents wouldn't have even thought about buying me a MB.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but really think through it. And if you just want it to have a Mac, you could probably pick up a cheap mini on eBay.

I'm posting again, because I just re-read the thread and no really helped you much.

I'm fifteen, and I just bought my macbook a few months ago. I bought mine used and for only 700 dollars (yes, I bought it myself, mommy and daddy dont buy me whatever I want) so I could experience mac's without actually dishing out 1400 for a brand new computer. I needed a laptop because I live with 9 other people, and we were all sharing one computer...its kind of self explanatory.

But your situation sounds like you don't really need one. So don't get one....there are a lot of other things you could spend your money on.

Well, nothing hurts saving the money - I men, assuming he gets $100 per week from a part time job, I'm sure in around 12 weeks, if it is really required, he would still want it then. Time seems to allow one to get ones priorities organised in the right order.

Albeit, he would be making a wise investment, at fifteen, a macbook is just a toy. in college or when you're older, it's a necessity. if i got a macbook at 15, now at 20, i would want the newest one. if you're getting it when you don't really need it, by the time you do need it, it might not do what you need it to do; and if it does do what you need it do it, it won't do it very well.

wait until you absolutely need it, and it will be the best at that time, and you'll be happy you waited.
