Nah, no MBA 11" or 13" for me. I"m thinking of just selling my iMac and going with the retina 15" MBP. A college student should really have a notebook anyway. I just don't want two personal computers. I think that's a waste. The iPad 3 I have isn't cutting it anymore with pretty much anything.

Anyone know a good place to sell an iMac for a good price?

Having two computers is so much easier these days. You can use iCloud, DropBox and iTunes to keep most of your stuff in sync. It is really easy and works really well.

Eh maybe. Having two very nice Macs can be quite expensive, which is why I'd rather sell my iMac to offset the cost of the laptop. I haven't made any final decisions, but will by Tuesday. Either gonna be a rMBP with my iMac, or a 15" rMBP by itself.

I don't understand all the headache.

If you want a seriously powerful laptop that will do what a full size machine will do, but is actually portable, and has an amazing screen with a resolution rivaling something over 20", then a Pro is what you want. It will be heavier, it will have a better screen, it will get less battery life, it will be a powerhouse. Fact.

If you want something decently powerful (extremely if I compare it to the first gen i3 in my 3 year old Windows laptop that gets 3 hours on battery) with something between 6-12 hours of battery life (be realistic, heavy work means it'll lose charge quicker), portability that can't be beat by anything other than a tablet, then get an Air. It will last longer when out and about, it will be lighter, it will get almost anything done that a Pro can do albeit slower, it will have a lesser quality screen. Fact.

If you just want to brag about having a Pro Retina when an Air is all you really need in a laptop, you'll justify it to yourself one way or another, rendering this whole thread moot. Fact.

Seems pretty simple to me. If you want something to replace your beast of an iMac, this shouldn't be a difficult decision.

Your absolutely right. I can't argue with you. It's not a hard decision at all, and I have turned it into exactly that.

I have a beautiful high powered iMac which I love, but I also need something portable. So I'd rather keep my iMac and have a base rMBP 13".

And so let it be... case now closed.

An excellent choice. (Not that there was a bad one to be made, honestly.)

This way you won't miss the screen quality of the iMac when you go mobile. Wise decision, IMO.

If they don't announce a new model the day after tomorrow, at least consider a refurbished 13" retina, a used one from Craigslist, or at least a open box model from Best Buy. There's no need in paying top, premium, dollar for a machine that's about to be imminently upgraded.

At least you can buy applecare with the money you save.

I plan on using my student discount. I would be nervous to buy one of the refurbished macbook pros because you don't know what was previously wrong with it. Of course if I knew it was just an opened item and had to go through the refurbishing process I'd be all over it.

How do you go about getting an open box model from Best Buy? I've never head of this? Can this be done online?

EDIT: Yea, I don't think I'd be interested in the Best Buy open box computers.

You can search for them online but you can only buy them in-store. They usually have all the open boxes on a table or locked up in cage, depending on what kind of area the store is in.

Be careful when you bought slim designed device my i borked my MacBook Air it's just lip from my table then done.

Hi
I own a 15" rMBP (from best buy open box, got a steal) got the 2.7/16/512 have it paired with a 24" Cinema Display I picked up online for 400. It's an absolute dream, seriously best laptop ever. However, seriously, I would not take a $2000+ macbook to college. Think about it. Mine rarely leaves the house.

Your better off buying a MBA, cMBP new/open-box/referb, just make sure you get the warranty. it's your money, do what you want.
