Couldnt agree with you more, virus writers should all be rounded up and serve 3 weeks with 9-inch-Bubba in cell block D then regularly rotated within "general pop" for a minimum of 1 year.

I think i'll install Clam (for those of you reading this via google etc http://www.clamxav.com/) cant beat the price ;) either!

I am not really interested in downloading much software or movies onto my new mac, the hdd is just 80gigs and Ram sucks as well... was wondering if i should go the ebay route and get some ram... but then dont know how hard it is to install it and if i void anything by opening the mac to install it.... anyway, thats a discussion for another thread, as far as i am concerned you guys answered my question and this thread is done.

Thanks again to everyone who answered!

Cheers!

I think you will like ClamXav. It doesn't take much cpu time nor ram and I am running a long-in-the-tooth dual G5. IMO anyone with dual core or higher with ample ram will not notice it is running.

I detect Windows viruses once in a while and I feel good that I am not passing them on.

Hello! As some of you know, I am brand new to owning and using a Mac... so kindly excuse this question if its silly but... do i need an anti-virus? If yes, which one?

Hi Ryan - some say you do, some say you don't, but if you err on side of caution, like me, look at the Intego website - Virus Barrier X5 - because there's bound to be someone out there trying to build a Mr Nasty for Macs!

Virus Barrier is very expensive, and is a total waste of money at the moment. It's also very hard to completely uninstall.
