Been trying to find the answer to this for 4 years, or since the inception of Apple Music. I have kept Matchplay running because it is only $25 a year and I don't want to F things up. I have used Matchplay for over 6 years.

I originally signed up for Matchplay because I separated from my ex. wife but left the compluter with my iTunes library on it behind. I wanted access to it and to know it was somewhere in the cloud. I had plenty of self made music that was uploaded and not matched. That computer died a year ago and my physical library really does not exist on my Mac or a PC.

At the time Apple Music was released and I signed up, all indications where that Matchplay functionality was part of the Apple Music subscription. I still did not want to mess with losing anything so I have kept Matchplay.

Do I really need it and if so, what does it get me or protect me from? You would think Apple would not be taking my money if there was a discernible difference?

Do you mean iTunes Match?

If you have a back up of all your music, and you currently use Apple Music on your devices, I can't think of a reason to have both, especially if you plan on keeping AM for a while.

BTW, you should have a BU of your music whether it is on iTunes Match or not. iTunes Match lost all my music the month that AM came out.

According to the Apple engineers, I never had any music uploaded, which was bull of course.
