Which itunes? 8.1.1? You'll need 10.4.10 or better.

Have you tried updating it? What version of OS X do you have?

Just run Software Update. It will download the latest version of your OS (if available) and iTunes automatically.

Go to upper left apple menu, select
    About this mac

Ok then. Run go to the same Apple menu, and under About This Mac, click Software Update. Let it download all updates, restart, and repeat the process until it gives you a message saying that no more updates are available. This will update your OS as well as iTunes and anything else that need to be updated.
