Do I need to upgrade to Tahoe?

I have an ancient prehistoric 2021 MacBook Pro M1 16 inch. The Sonoma 14.8.1 seems to be doing fine.

Would there be any advantages going to Tahoe?

I'm also concerned about unresolved bugs in Tahoe if there are any.

Need? I don’t see a “need” for Tahoe.

Tahoe works well for me on 4 household Macs, including a M1 mini. But you do you.

I have a 2021 MacBook Pro, also (mine is a 14").

And it also runs fine on Sonoma.

So long as it CONTINUES to run well on Sonoma, I have no plans to upgrade the OS "further".

In the future, I might consider "upping it" to Sequoia.
But... not for now.

Unless you can name something that specifically only Tahoe can do and you want it, the wisest thing is to leave things as is.

I have a slightly newer M2 MacBook Air with 16gb ram that I use mostly for Logic Pro and making music on. I do get some web browsing on it and email use but I can equally do that on my iPad.

I am currently on Ventura 13.7.8 and it works pretty flawlessly but there are some apps that I would like to run that require 14.5+ to install. This would be to major reason to do an upgrade. My though or hesitation to move up to an even newer OS is that Apple just loves to throw in more "junk" that I have zero need for any thinking is that more stuff equals slower on hardware and more RAM requirements to support something I don't really need.

Is there any downside to upgrade to the last version of MacOS 14.8.7 that I got off mist? I did have a go at running a version of 14 on my M2 Mac mini and didn't have much luck with it but that was only up to 14.3 and then I managed to revert back to 13 when I got the MacBook Air that allowed me to DFU it back to match the version on the MacBook.

Any insight or wisdom is always appreciated.
