I never liked the parallax effect and having my wallpaper move around, but I thought it might be needed on an oled phone since the pixels are constantly changing and not static. Am I just over thinking it? Can I turn parallax off and not get burn in?

I have stopped using iPhones after the 4 because I wanted an OLED screen. Was using Samsung devices and they never had screen burn in within normal use. If anybody brings up store demos those literally are on the same screen for days if not months. I’ve never had any issues with my iPhone and burn in and use a normal wallpaper. Just use it like normal and you’ll be fine.

No, parallax is not required. I think you are overthinking this. Just use it and enjoy it! 😊

Going to the source they have this to say about burn-in specifically:
We’ve engineered the Super Retina and Super Retina XDR displays to be the best in the industry in reducing the effects of OLED "burn-in." This includes special algorithms that monitor the usage of individual pixels to produce display calibration data. Your iPhone uses that data to automatically adjust the brightness levels for each pixel as needed to reduce visual effects from "burn-in" and to maintain a consistent viewing experience
