I'm not looking to switch carriers, which seems to be the most restricting since almost all the deals I've been seeing require it.

I've never bought an older-gen iPhone when the newer ones get released, but I'm looking to do so this year.
So just wondering if iPhones tend to get some kind of deal during the holidays ie Black Friday/Christmas?
If so do you recall of any in particular?

My personal guess is that you may not see many great deals this year on older iPhones because carriers are offering the 12 and/or 12 Pro for such aggressive pricing due to the 5G wars. If you are looking to switch carriers, provided you are not going to an MVNO you should be able to get the 12 for a pretty deep discount (right up to a 100% discount) if you are willing to stay with the same carrier for 2-2.5 years. Older models might be included in some of these promotions but as of right now they do not appear to be and carriers would have much less incentive to price these (non-5G-capable iPhones) aggressively.

excuse my cluelessness, what is the 5G war? I thought in many areas, 5G still isn't even possible yet so I don't really see the push for it, but like you said there are really good deals for upgrading right now towards the 12s specifically.

I figured with the new 12s non apple retailers would try to at least get rid of their older stock hence deals,
I'm gussing that's not going to be the case?

The 5G war is a marketing hype war for now. The cellular providers are huckstering it like carnival barkers but there's really nothing substantial they're selling (for now, for the most part)

Last year, Apple gave 6% cash back up front on any purchase (including phones) if you used your Apple Card for monthly installments or PIF from Black Friday until Dec 31rst.

I don’t know how it’ll be this year because of how late the phones are being released (compared to their typical September release), but Target was giving out $200 gift cards last year with new iPhone 11/Pro activations.

They offered an even better deal ($250 card) in 2018 and 2016, so it’s very probable we’ll see similar promos this year leading into the holiday madness.

I wish Apple would just offer a 5% CC on apple products, that would be nice...

But thank you all for letting me know! I'll keep my fingers crossed in the meantime.

What carrier and phone do you have? Right now they are giving crazy trade in prices for installment plans to existing and new customers.

I'm on Verizon and have been holding on to my 8+

unfortunately, From what I could tell, most of the deals revolve around those with an XS and or switching carriers which I'm not looking towards doing.

I see. Well, you could get the iPhone 11 for $599 through Apple oniine and take the $210 trade in for your phone and that would make your price $389.

I'm actually only looking towards upgrading to another Pro Max model. So I've been keeping my eye on those. I'm hoping more come into the market once the 12s are actually out, but the fact that the 12 Pro Max's are released later I figured it will probs take a while.

Got it. I hope there might be a deal that comes up. The only ones I have seen with Apple on Black Friday, were $50 off or the Apple Card 6% cash back. Good luck to you.
