Do new iPad covers work with ipad1

I presume new covers don't work with first iPad. Can someone test and confirm though

The original iPad does not have the magnets in it that are required to keep the smart cover in place. You could get it to work, it will just require some duct tape to keep the smart cover hinge in place.
