thats impressive how apple will repair the dent

He didn't say he had a dent, he said the case was broken. If this was his own doing, of course he has no option but to wait. If it's a manufacturing fault, and he's been made to wait a month computer-free, it's unacceptable.

About a month ago I sent my laptop in for a simple interior fascia replacement, it took two weeks when they said it'd take a day because of a missing part. All that time they held onto the machine, without telling me why until I called them several times. I was considering proceedings to get a new one, but I knew the defect was so small it didn't really warrant it.

Looks like the repair's been delayed until Jan 7 because of a parts issue. In the meantime, he still needs a computer.

Personally (but i'm at law school!), I'd press for a new machine if you believe the timeframe for repair is not reasonable.

I'm also in law school - so as you understand, the issue of warranty coverage doesn't really matter; there are no parts, warranty or not.

to apple's credit, they set a 7-10 day deadline for themselves. that's not a viable *business* solution, but i'm not gonna flip out over it. i just ordered an eee pc for the wait...maybe i can get the drivers working on it for OS X.

i'm not covering this thing with cases/covers/protectors, either. it's beautiful bare, and i don't mind character-building wear and tear. a case would not have prevented my problems.

My friend took an awful spill off of his skateboard with his mbp in his backpack. It is just a little dented on the side..I am amazed that the thing still works fine.

As pointed out in my follow up post, if it was a manufacturing defect I'd expect a new machine rather than them to shrug their shoulders and say there's nothing they can do.

Otherwise, yeah I guess you just have to twiddle your thumbs, or get a machine for the meantime as you have... good choice too. That's probably the only non-Apple portable I'd pick up!
