Hi there!
On my old XPS 15 there was an option to not charge battery while the laptop was plugged in. Charging kicks in only if battery is under 50%.
Is there any similar option for macs?
I use my laptop 90% of the time as a desktop computer, so plugged in and connected to an external monitor.
Thanks!

I've got myself a manual routine to keep the battery cycles going; With lock-downs, i am forced now to work from home all the time so technically, my macbook pro is now more a desktop connected to a external monitor.

Luckily, I have easy access to wall-socket switch connected with macbook; Every night, i put it to sleep and turn off the main switch; Start my work next day and turn on the switch only when the battery goes about 30-40% charge, then use it entire day connected...

its helping the battery cycles and for me, its working out pretty good.

OP:

Buy a cheap power strip with an on/off switch.
Plug the strip into the wall, and plug the charger into it.

3 or 4 times a week, reach over and FLIP OFF the power strip and let the MacBook battery run down to about 35%. Then flip the charger back on.

At night, reach over and FLIP OFF the power strip. The next morning, turn it back on. Do this whether or not you shut down the MacBook at night, or just let it sleep....

My laptop has this features: if plugged in and the battery level is 100%, current will bypass battery not to ruin it
Do macbooks have this featurer?

There are 2 third party programs you can use to do this.
1. Charge Limiter (set and forget)
2. AlDente (has GUI, requires Catalina)
These are the best solutions... I briefly tried Catalina's battery health management feature, but it seemed like an overthought solution that wouldn't do what I wanted, which was simply to not have the battery of my MBP (which is almost always plugged in) charged beyond a certain point, and to just run off of AC power.
