Ok this is going to be a long story.
To celebrate surviving last year, and to help further my college endeavors, I bought a 2020 iPad Pro used from eBay. No big deal, the iPad is in perfect shape and came with a Smart Keyboard. So I transferred my data from my 7th gen 10.2” iPad to the pro. Again, no problem. Then, I decided my fiancée could use my old iPad since hers has a busted screen. I used system restore and got to work on fixing her new iPad. The iPad refused to connect to an activation server, refused to connect to WiFi, refused to login to an iCloud account, and finally resulted in me accidentally getting it to work by plugging it into itunes first and then activating it. Thinking it was a one time fluke, I tried logging my mom into the broken iPad this morning (because we’re going to fix the screen) and boom. Same problem.
This seems to be isolated to the 10.2 inch 7th gen model, but just be aware that something screwy is going on.

This happened to me this morning. I have an old iPad 2. I used it last night. It was plugged in, not to the computer but powered USB ovber night. I always leave it on and almost never iupdate. It self updated last night and refused to cme back online until I connected it to iTunes. It really angered me because I had other things to do and it seemed like it was bricked by Apple.

No I think something is wrong with their activation software. Apple doesn’t just brick stuff. But that’s beyond strange that it happened on an old iPad 2. My pro activated perfectly fine as did my fiancee’s new iPhone 11.

I just bought my 8th generation iPad from my local T-Mobile store wednesday night and had no problems activating it or restoring it from my iPad Air 2’s most recent iCloud back up. Not sure if it matters but I am in the Chicago metro area. It actually did it faster than I expected, including installing the apps I had on my air 2, and had no problems setting my air 2 up for my boyfriend on Wednesday night.

If it were indeed affecting every iPad I would expect to see some broader publicity on it outside of this thread - e.g., MacRumors front page. The obscenity level over on the Reddit iPad forum would skyrocket but there is no mention there.
