iPad mini Do pages move when reading in portrait?

Hi,

I was wondering if the pages automatically flip when Reading in portrait mode? There isn't much of a bezel like on a Kindle or an iPad so I was wondering if ones needs to hold the mini a certain way when reading in portrait mode.

It's not perfect but you can place your thumb on the edge without flipping pages in Kindle and I assume other apps. Apple added something to detect when you're resting your thumb on the edge.
