Hey all,

Just wanting to know what other folks tend to do. I still have the original Apple black sports band on my AW4. Main reason for this is that I feel it goes well with when doing work during the day and when going to the gym. This was before the lock down. However wondering if people tend to have multiple bands for different occasions? If you do for example one for office and one for the gym do you not feel it a bit of an inconvenience of having to keep a spare band around and swap it around for that kind of thing.

Just interested to see what other people do.

I have 4 go to bands for my S5 Gold:

Sport Band - Swimming, exercise (sweating situations)
Gold Milanese Loop - Dress
Leather Loop - Dress (when I want a soft band and don't want the gold bling look)
Sport Loop - daily driver (99% of the time)

Absolutely. I have/had over 25 sport bands (Fluoroestamer), a brown leather loop, two stainless steel link bands (Regular and black stainless).

In terms of when I wear my bands, I wear any of these bands when I want, it doesn’t have to be a special occasion, I actually just match the band based off my attire for the day.

The sport bands are my favorite actually, comfortable, they’re also extremely durable where mine still look factory new. Worn daily with anything.

The link bands are thin and light enough, where this could be worn with anything, but it does add quite a bit of weight to the stainless Apple Watch, given it is a
‘metal band’. Worn formal/Non-formal.

But overall in terms of complete comfort, the leather loop is the clear winner. If looks and feels amazing on the wrist.

I also have different bands for different occasions (S5 Space Black).
  • Work - Space Black Link or Bandwerk brown leather strap
  • Exercise - Nike sport band
  • Around the house - sport loop
I also have a couple of regular sports bands that I don’t use anymore (the sport loops completely ruined the regular sport bands for me). I find that the bands are so quick to change out that it’s easy to have multiple bands for different uses. It also gives the watch more versatility in my mind. That being said, I know plenty of people who just have the original band their watch came with and nothing else. I think that is a perfectly fine approach if you don’t feel like changing bands. The black sport band is a perfect “all around” band if you only have one. I change bands because I like the different looks. But, I doubt many people notice or care. It’s all up to you!

I will say be careful if you start purchasing more bands. It can get addicting fast!

I have a few different kinds of bands and swap them for a few days each mostly. I don’t change multiple times a day. But there is no wrong or right with fashion, do what you like.

Black Sports - daily driver / gym
Leather - casual smart

No metal bands for me. Got a few different types of silicon and leather bands to match with the outfits.

I started with the sport band, thinking I'd try other bands. I never bothered. My wife also has the sport band, but switched to a loop.

I have lots of sport loops for different occasions, but usually I like to 'catch eyes with my wrist' so tend to go for brighter colours lol.

I dont really 100% like the fit and feel of the sport band, but I have a few of those from AliExpress, just to change it up.

I used the black sport band for the 1 year I was using my space grey Series 4.

I just purchased a Ceramic model S5 last week, and based on the Ceramic owner's thread I bought a boatload of different coloured sport bands as I was inspired by how it can really contrast on the white watch. I enjoy now changing it not just on attire - but location. If I'm in NYC I'll plan to wear more contrasting colours with my outfit, while at home I keep it looking more subtle etc.

Never thought I'd have a collection of sport bands but here I am LOL

Honestly the white ceramic watch is sooooo sharp! I can imagine how good it looks with any other band! I am jealous!

I'll stick with my current default band (I only tried switching band types for fit eval) until I have to get a new one.

I don't really consider a swappable band on something everyone has an individual choice, so I'm not going to waste money on it.

I guess this view, so clearly expressed, highlights just one of the things Apple got so right with the Watch.

Personally I’m completely the opposite - I really enjoy trying to coordinate the colour of my band with what I am wearing, and I’ll definitely wear some bands in a formal setting and others informal - I haven’t worn a Hermes or other leather band since working from home started, but I never wear a Nike Sport Band to the office (and I never wear a Sport Loop at all). I have 74 bands currently, all OEM Apple, and I change them at least once almost every day.

Neither of us is wrong in our view, we clearly just value different things about the Apple Watch.

The Hermes edition really highlights the way Apple have suckered more people into paying for essentially disposable "little luxury" and again, the false premise of expressing individuality over actual luxury.

Even just going with the particular brand (which itself doesn't necessarily make the best of anything, but is simply a *known* brand), my Etrivere II for example will last decades - and long after I'm dead. The Hermes Watch? $20 at a thrift store in 10 years - if it even works by then.

It's like anything though. For example, some people like to wear their same shoes every day - some people have a collection to coordinate with different colour outfits.

It's just great that Apple, from the start, let people make that choice :)

I have I thinks bout 15 bands, different types, materials and colors. For the past few months, when I have been at home a lot due to the pandemic, I have only had the sports loop on as it is the most comfortable for pretty much every situation. During „normal“ times, I would switch between the sports loop for home use and other bands like the leather loop, Milanese band etc for normal day to day use.

My wife and I combined probably have 40+ bands. Ours are mostly Apple sport loops and Nike sport loops. We do have leather and Milanase bands as well. We switch them out depending on what we are doing. Hiking, gym, work, weekend and so on. Plus we like to match our phone cases.

And your point, with respect to whether people have more than one band for different occasions, is what exactly?

It doesn’t even make sense. Why would my leather Hermes bands be $20 in a thrift store or non functional in 10 years yet your Hermes briefcase will last a lifetime? Same company’s leather products.

I happen to think your opinion is dead wrong - whatever the one band you have that came with your watch is, I guarantee it looks wrong in several situations in your daily life - but I still respect that opinion as yours to have. You on the other hand decided to tell me I’ve been suckered by Apple, while entirely missing the point.

My apologies, I hadn‘t realised I was supposed to live my life by your standards. I’ll work on becoming more boorish, and caring more about the important things in life like what I carry work papers in rather than stupid stuff like matching my accessories to the social or professional situation I am in.

He's talking about the Hermes watch - not the band - and this is a watch band thread - and he couldn't even tell 🤣 Just ignore.

I have around 25-30 and change every few days, or at least I did before the zombie apocalypse. I’ve had an Apple Watch since the release day of the original, so my collection has built up over several years. Some for dressy occasions, some coordinated with different work attire, some for working out, some for casual jeans and tee shirt.

Last one I bought was about 3-4 months ago (anchor grey sport loop). Still contemplating the next one.

I only have 5 bands to complement my Silver SS S4 - 2 Apple sport (black and red) , 2 leather one (Apple original in black, and third party in brown ) and Milanese. I usually wear leather bands and Milanese to work or when going out in the evening, and wear sport bands around the house or when working out. Now that I have been stuck at home for the past 3 months, I wear sports band 99% of time and only alternate colors every other week or so.

Yes, I have a leather loop for work, a sport band for swimming, and 2 sport loops for weekends and exercise.

I'm talking about both. The band attachment will be phased out eventually once Apple decides they need to sell more bands... or to put it another way, "innovate" with another retaining design.

I primarily use two bands - the leather band for most regular use, and a white (or maybe it is somewhat off-white) sport loop for wearing when I'm working in the yard or could get the watch dirty or sweaty. The white sport loop is not a particularly good choice for that because the dang thing is now pretty discolored (I suppose I could wash it), so I also have a blue sport loop that I'm going to start using instead.

The leather band is the original Apple leather buckle style and I really like it although it doesn't have the flexibility of the sport loops in sizing the band to the best size for your wrist.

My wife has the Milanese loop in silver and it is beautiful, she doesn't use anything else.
