The Vertex 3 is the king of SSD performance. It performs in some cases nearly three times faster.

No one is disputing that the vertex 3 is the faster then intel, but what good is the speed, if the drive has a higher failure rate, issues with TRIM or other issues. I'm not trashing the vertex but given the fact that I'm spending a lot of money for a small-ish drive (as compared to a HD), I want to be sure I'm using my money in the best possible way

Something to consider: TRIM seems to work ok on the intel drives but causes beachballing on the Vertex 3...

but the sandforce garbage collection is better than this unofficial TRIM support. Even though I have the TRIM enabled on my SF1200 drive..

but I think the 320 would be preferred for those with 2010 and older MBP's for SATA 2 support. I would much rather have the Vertex 3 although I don't really need it right now. Vertex 2 does everything I need with a single bounce. I don't do much at all of any sequential R/W and only loading I have is SC2 maps and WoW. Not necessarily needing that 450+MB/s read speeds.

I have a Macbook Pro 13 Late 2010 and I will buy a SSD this week. I don't know if I go with the new Intel 320 120GB ($233 on Amazon) or with the "old" OCZ Vertex 2 120 ($209 on Amazon).

The Vertex 2 is supposedly faster than the Intel 320, but at the same time, the Intel seems to be more reliable. I don't know what to do.

What do you suggest guys? I use VM Fusion (with Windows 7) heavily..

Thanks

ps: I will also add an extra 4g stick, totalizing 8GB Ram

There are a lot of ppl banking on the reputation of the older drives - and not to mention that the intel 510 was not exactly reliable - more than a few threads re probs. with the intel 510 on sata-3

From the first few weeks it appears that the vertex 3 -by ocz has been played well in the MBP on sata-3

One also has to bear in mind the re-sale value of a sata-2 drives will be lower in general, and once the 2010 and before MBP owners upgrade, if they went with the v3 they can rest assured that they will have made that initial investment and thus can utilise the potential of sata-3+ interface and enjoy up to double the performance!
