I refuse to install Flash - so I use Safari most of the time but when I need to work on a Flash site, or use the Chrome developer tools, I use Chrome.

I used to feel this way about Flash. Somewhere in the past year or so, having a Google product on my Mac became more disturbing than having an Adobe product. When Apple added per-site controls for plug-ins I installed Flash and uninstalled Chrome.

A.

I keep chrome on my machines for those few instances where it's needed, but I found that it really impacts battery life.

I prefer Firefox, cause its buttons are more 3D while chrome is more 2D, as well as way more colorful. I wish Firefox had some more color, but google chrome is too much for me. In addition, I like how Firefox visually manages several tabs open and dislike how Chrome do it. To conclude, I love 2 Firefox extensions not available in chrome

But Chrome is great if you like it. Either safari, chrome or firefox, you will be fine with any browser

Agree and note as I did above only Safari and Firefox are 64 bit whereas Chrome remains 32 bit.

What's the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit when it comes to browsers?

Doesn't it makes very little difference on a machine such as
the Macbook Air which only has 4GB of RAM to begin with?

Ah...no.

People are fixated on memory size on the 32 vs 64 bit because that's the easiest thing to understand but in this case is not that.

In this context, a 32 bit App is not using all the bandwidth of a 64 bit processor is capable of and hence, will run less efficiently, BUT I have not heard from Chrome users that it drags, so in real life (that word again) is so far, moot, at least for Chrome.

For a high bandwidth application, say a video encoder, not only you want it to be 64 bit but you also want it to be optimized for the cpu's multi-cores.

For me Safari offers the smoothest overall browsing so that is my go-to browser :D

do people use Chrome browser on MBA?

or is that silly? I'm still patiently waiting for my MBA(my first Mac) to arrive.

I'm hopelessly addicted to Chrome browser. It started when I got a free CR-48 chromebook from Google as a beta user, then on my PCs, then on all of my smartphones)

Yes, lots of people use Google Chrome browser on their MBAs.

Chrome is all I use. I prefer Google services, so it makes sense for me to use Google's browser.

Plus, it feels quicker to me.

I use Chrome a majority of the time since i also use quite a few Google services and its just easier for me to sync everything together smoothly.

I've used Macs since 1987 and due to financial circumstances over the decades (when Macs were outrageously priced and when RAM likewise was very costly and when I made very little money)....I've mainly bought machines with base RAM and base storage capacity.

However, in recent years I've seen prices drop like a rock and I've reached the point in life where I try to get a bit more than base configurations.

Thus, my2013 MacBook Air has 8GB RAM and a 512 Apple SSD.

I did use chrome on a few occasions when Safari could not cut it.

One notable incident was when I needed to upload a powerpoint presentation to slideshare to convert. For some reason, the process just would not complete on Safari (despite restarting a few times). I repeated the process in chrome, and it was a success on the 1st time.

Also, Google's other services like google docs and youtube seem to work better in Chrome.

For everything else, I use Safari, mainly because I have quite a few other Apple devices all running Safari, and for the reader mode. :)
