My iPhone 7 after 5 years of use (naked) had a few minor signs of wear, but some of the coatings on the screen had worn off in the top left corner where many app screens situate “back” buttons. They deducted about 20 euros for that at the Apple Store, leaving me to get 50 euros back.

That is absolutely ridiculous. The oleophobic coating? That's a perishable thing! that's messed up.

Not sure if it was the oleophobic coating, it was certainly exposing some of the pixels of the screen in a different way and looked like a small 'wet patch' on the screen. Only visible if you turned the phone in a certain way though.
