Right. The pictures are there from a backup, but are not accessible via a web browser.

Setting up as new on the phone will not bring back the photos. Setting up as new and using the same icloud account will sync back your contacts, notes, calendars, etc. If you click on the settings icon in iOS and go to icloud, those are the things that will sync back to the phone. But not your photoroll.

Thank you! It's strange how hard it was for some users to understand what it was exactly I was asking. I wonder if there's software out there to do a custom backup or sorts. I know there's backup extraction software, but it tends to be a hassle, unorganized, and is more for recovering data from a backup.

i am aware that you cannot individually sync the photos back without restoring from an icloud backup. You were stating that your camera roll was not backed up to icloud at all which isnt true.

It seems like it'd be easier to just sync them to iphoto and then either sync them all back to your phone via itunes or create an album.

If you have a MacBook, you can use iPhoto. This transfers photos and videos to your MacBook.

Other option I use is Iomega NAS device(ix2-200) with Iomega Link App. You can copy to and restore from your NAS device.

If you don't have either of those two use Simple Transfer App. You can transfer photos & videos to PC or other mobile device.

With 5GB iCloud is good enough for contacts, calendar and reminders and PhotoStream when you are on the road.

Unless Camera Roll is turned on in settings-iCloud - storage&backup - manage storage your iCloud backup won't pickup photos.

One more tip, if you have multiple e-mail accounts on iPhone with contacts turned on, your contacts are a mess. For some reason new contacts are distributed among all. It is better to enable contacts only on iCloud account.

I think I'm going to end up syncing them to my MacBook and back. But WAIT. Isn't it technically possible to copy all the pictures, whether it be done on my iPhone or MacBook, to an email, send said email, then save them all to my camera roll?

Does that app let you copy them back into a "camera roll" folder? I'll look into that app, thanks!

there is an attachment limit. I think ios will only let you email up to 6 pictures at a time so if you've got alot it could take awhile.

you could always save them from photostream though that'd take awhile if its alot. When i did a clean install since i only wanted a few pictures this is what i did

While there is a limit of photos you can choose for emailing, there's no limit you can select for copying, which you can then paste into said email. I've done that before, but I don't really see copy and pasting 1700 photos then saving them an easy task.

When viewing photos from a Photoshared library is there a "save all" option or option to select more than once photo a time to be saved? If there's the latter and not a save all option I'll just select them all at once.

at least in iOS 6 i was just able to go into my photo stream tap edit then select multiple pictures(i went to 25 just now to make sure it didn't disappear) and there is a save button at the bottom. So it looks like that would work. Would still take some time though to select that many pictures. And doesn't photo stream only leave 30 days of photo's available?
