Why don't they just laugh out loud?
Most of all it's just a trend word, I guess. It seems to replace saying "that's funny" or laughing a half-hearted "hehe" to indicate something is funny but you're able to control yourself.

Oh, and since trønderan have thick l's it actually sounds a bit cool when they say LOL.
the funny thing is LOL a dutch word :p
lol = having fun, amusement

so yes we do say it
lol, that's funny ;)

i've heard a couple people say it. it takes everything i have to not punch em in the head.

Go ahead and punch them in the head, say you are just exercising your right to pummel dorks and geeks.

They used to say it outloud but have since stopped for the most part, but like with all trends there are a few stragglers that failed to stop using the "term of the week" so to speak, so i was forced to put yes. A lot of people say it in texts and IMs, but not in real life around Moorestown :)

Yes, but only with sarcasm. 'JK' is in more widespread use, yet also sarcastically..

A few of my friends and I say these, but instead of spelling out the letters, we try to pronounce them.

They say "el-oh-el". I always roll my eyes.

You should say colon-rolleyes-colon.

Only one person that i know of says it regularly and he's...... uh..... different. so i dont know if he really counts. But no, no one really says it out loud around here (southern california).

Oh god I hope not... That's always been one of my fears in life, that jsut hanging around with my friends, that I would slip out an "LOL" instead of an honest chuckle.

If I ever heard someone say it I would go out of my way to push them under a truck.

I have to admit I just said 'LOL' in another post  I don't know why it just slipped out. I dont usually do it!

I hate that crap. Next it will be a language course in colleges.

By the way the poll should have a 'probably' option. I dont hang about with the chavs as I have a life and im 26. But Im sure the little ******** do say it. As well as WTF.

If you dont know what a 'chav' is go here:

That's it, I'm pushing you under a truck.

I hate all that crap too, all that "ne 1 no wen da nu 2 duo cor MacBook Pro iz comin out?" just needs to stop. How much harder can it be to actually type the words out in full? It's just plain lazy.

Its damn hard to read too. I read your chav quote twice :D

Also the Youtube link by vniow was damn funny. Only thing is the song is stuck in my head now. One question though; does not knowing what the hell IRC is make me cool?

My friends and I tend to use it mockingly. Much like the other fellow in the thread, if we want to express we're joking about something we'll end with JAY KAY, LAWL or ELL OH ELL, to make fun of the other person. Or, if something's not actually funny, but it's supposed to be, we'll let out a little LOL action. WTF was used too, just as a slightly less offensive way to express displeasure, which is to say without actually cursing. It probably got worse while we were playing WoW, it seems to be creeping out of my regular vocabulary now that I've stopped.

But when I get back together with those guys, I'm sure it'll start again. It's not something I'd do in public, but it's funny when your friends have an understanding about how you use it (AKA: not seriously). If something's funny, we all laugh of course, like regular people.

Most of the trailer trash type teenagers say "like" in every 2nd or 3rd word of a sentence. They sound like a pack of seagulls fighting over a french fry.

Maybe they're just from California. I'm not trailer trash (I hope not..) but since I grew up near the beach every other word tends to be, "like."

Sometimes people say L-O-L but in a joking manner. Some say, "laugh out loud." No one I know actually says it seriously and all the time.

Only one person and it is REALLY annoying. You talk to him and if you say something funny, it is LOL. Just laugh!!!

I will say "ell-o-ell" when someone is trying too hard to be funny and i want to make them feel dumb.
Or I am going somewhere I will sarcasticly say "beee-arr-beee"

Thats cool.
