Do text messages permanently delete?

Just wondering if text messages permanently delete or is there a way of accessing deleted messages still?

If you haven't synced your iPhone to your itunes after deletion, you can go into the back up on your computer and manually retrieved the deleted messages with something like mobilesync browser.

Thanks but I wondered if there was another way, like accessing them though a permanent log via iPhone explored or something like that?

if its for a legal reason you can get them thru at&t with a court order i believe.

I ve noticed that when i delate an SMS and get another from the same person it brings the old one back in history is this normal.
