Our whole concentration is deliberately focused on one, very-difficult-to-see pattern of events, but when driving our concentration is nowhere near so focused. The message would appear to be: concentrate less (like, on other cars) and notice unimportant things (like, what kind of tree that is on the left). While the message it's trying to convey is a good one, I don't think your average Joe is going to learn from it. The concept is too at odds with reality on the road. Showing accidents and such is far more effective. Just my view.

To answer the question, I only passed the first test.

I got the number right, and I noticed [snip] some but not all aspects of the other thing.

Edited just for ucfgrad. And replaced with something obnoxious...hmm...I shall use this one.

I got the number, missed the bear. I think the lesson that should be learned though is that cyclists should not wear black. Bright colors, drivers are more likely to miss the dark shades... and wear reflectors too, i hate that when cyclists bike at night and fail to take the proper precautions.

I got the right number of passes, but missed the bear. Even on the replay, it didn't look much like a bear and it certainly didn't look like it was moonwalking. It's a great way to get people's attention, but I don't think the message is right. If the bear represent a cyclist, why is a cyclist going in between cars (the players)? Shouldn't they stay in their own lane and not mix with everyone else?

I knew what was coming, but *only* because I just a few days ago read in Elephants on Acid and Other Bizarre Experiments about this same experiment being performed by Daniel Simmons and Christopher Chabris in 1998 :p:D. Otherwise I'd of had no idea what was coming. Makes a great PSA though.

Edit: Spoiler beyond this point Actually in their experiment Simmons and Chabris used a guy in a gorilla suit and not a bear.

I passed. But did see the bear only after 3 times watching the clip... :D
Is it a kind of social advertising concerning bicycles?

Not always possible in London, where the ad is aimed (note the Mayor of London logo at the end). There's only recently been a movement to introduce a comprehensive network of cycle lanes, and it's nowhere near complete even in the centre of town.

you got me there. good message... I just hope the people of London won't look at cyclists as M*** W****** B***s.

Hehe, different thinking here... who would put up a site with no ads, streaming videos just for this ad campaign? well... the links at the bottom suggests tfl.gov.uk... ;)

I've seen a very similar thing on TV before, in some science programme, so I expected It would happen.

it was on Mad Labs, on NaGeo.

Omg Omg

I got 1 number more than the answer to the first question, but I failed the 2nd one. I still didn't see it on the replay.

I sucked at this.. got 12 as the count (dunno which one pass I missed)
Couldn't comprehend.."moonwalking bear" HAH ! What bear eh ??
OMG OMG OMG.. there's that bear (2nd replay)
I'm ashamed...

P.S: you never read this post !

Failed the first test, passed the second.

I've taken too many psych classes to know when I should disobey the instructions and look for something else.

:D

Damn hella cool! Finally I watched it, I got the first question right but missed the second, like pretty much everyone else. Legit.

i did something like this in my stress reduction class last year... (yes its a REQUIRED class)
and yes i failed both times :p

thats awesome! A while ago I saw one that was similar - it had a gorilla watlz through a crowd of people (and I missed that one too...)

I think I'm a danger on the road..
