Do you baby your Apple Watch?

I kind of babied it for the first few weeks of owning my AW, but that quickly changed after knocking it into things by accident. I put a small scratch on it somehow, and since, I just don't care.

My AW rarely comes off anymore, not when working in yard, doing projects, or even in the engine bays of my vehicles. I have had to use dish soap to get off motor oil a few times.

The band looks perfect, it is the original one. The body looks mostly good, maybe a few tiny marks. The glass looks the same as it did a few years ago, the scratch that has been there since the beginning, and nothing else.

Which model do you have?

I wouldn’t say I baby it. I have one of those snap on clear cases that I use at work just because it gets a little roughed up there (my S3 looked pretty awful by the end of its life), but I don’t use the case or any protectors when I’m not working. I have the aluminum model, and apart from a few very light hairline scratches, my watch is spotless. I own a lot of bands as well, and switch between them frequently enough that they don’t get roughed up either.

I voted "I baby it," but what I actually do is put a screen protector and a case on it, then kind of forget about it. I know it'll irritate me no end if I ever get any scratches on it, so case and protector it is. They are cheap, and good for my peace of my mind. And the watch is in pristine condition when I trade it in to get the next one, usually every other year.

I just wear them all and don’t think too much about it. I’m not needlessly careless though. For example I recently had to wedge my hand down the back between a water butt and a brick wall. I took it off for that.

I wore a stainless automatic watch for years before I started wearing Apple Watches. It bugged me at first when i dropped it or got a scratch, but after a while I didn’t care as long as the crystal was in good shape. I’m the same way with my Apple Watch. Put it on, use it and don’t think about it.

If you count putting a screen protector and casing it as ‘babying it’, then no. Not going to do that.

I am just careful with it. I try to not slam my AWU against anything and take it off when I will take a shower, as Apple recommended. I wouldn’t lie it if it would become very beat up. I am careful with all my Apple products.

I voted, “What? Me worry?” but that should come with an asterisk.

I’ve got an Ultra. I think anything short of deep-sea caving qualifies as “babying,” and maybe not even that.

Something damages the watch, I’m going to be far, far more worried about what that something did to my wrist.

To me - it is a watch - I don't do anything to it that I didn't do with any other watch I have used for the last 61 years other than I put a screen protector on it because I hate screen scratches. But I hated those on my timex as well. I don't worry about the body at all - I wouldn't notice the body. I have had the aluminum and the ss apple watch and have never noticed the body having any issues at all - I do yard work, exercise, play pickleball, hike, dog agility and sheepherding and so on in it and as far as I can tell -never did the body of any of them have trouble.

Reasonable care - but I've worn watches for decades, so I know I'm going to smack it into doorknobs, etc. It's why I buy AppleCare for it.

Nah, no worries.

Of course I don't actively try to damage it, but with normal use/wear I don't really think I need any special protection or considerations.

My phone, on the other hand, has one of Apple's leather cases, which has prevented damage on several occasions, when ever I've dropped the phone (or it falls off some furniture). This doesn't happen _often_ but still regularly enough that it would be a problem without protection...

The watch - on the other hand (pun semi-intended) - tends not to be dropped...except when one of the cats swats it off the table where it (normally) charges. Though with wooden floor there hasn't been any damage because of this. 😺

It’s on my wrist. As long as I don’t smash my hand/wrist into something it’s pretty safe. I’ve always had the aluminum cases and no scratches.

Im very careful with mine. Usually always have it on, charge at night, and then use during school and playing games.

No screen protectors and no case covers. I have never been worried about any scratches or dings. Actually I have never seen any scratched/dings on any of the 7 watches I have had. I did break the screen on my S4 - I took it off in the shower, lost my grip and it hit the tile wall hard. AC+ replaced the watch. I have the Ultra now and I will just enjoy using it.

I don’t baby my ultra nor do I not care about it. It’s only $799. I don’t baby my Rolex watches either. I wear all my watches in great health. I’m grateful and blessed to have such timepieces on my wrist. I appreciate my ultra too.

My series 4 managed to survive 4 years and only recently got replaced because of the poor battery. And in that 4 years, I just wear it normally, use bare minimum care (e.g. not gonna intentionally smash it onto wall or sth) and go on with my life. That series 4 is also the “cheapest” aluminium case at the time.

To me, I would care more about my life more than any of those devices taking damage any day if something happens. Yes, a damaged device can set me back financially, but hurting me set me back more.

How did the screen hold up after four years? Do you have a pic by chance?

No, the old one has already been replaced by Apple. So no pic.
But aside from two narrow scratches that are barely noticeable unless under the sun, the screen is great and doesn’t impact functionality at all.

Thanks.

Ironically, I'm more careful with my Ultra than I was with any AW before it. lol.
Even my Series 7, I just wore it and didn't think twice about it.
I guess it's because I've never spent this much on an AW, and it's still 'new'.
