Do you close apps?

I just close my apps in the evening, before going to sleep.
I'm using SBSettings for thi, because each of them manually sucks 😉
 
On iOS i am pretty sure only the core phone apps and services to handle push messages run in the background all the time, there are a few excepctions, such as GPS apps that can continue to run whilst you swap out to another app, but usually when you leave an app, its enters a suspended state, usues no resocurces (other than a bit of storage space to hold its suspended state) , drains no battery life and ceases to run anyway.

The tray that pops up when you double click the home button is more a list of recently used apps than showing apps running in the background (because they cant run in the background by design of the OS)

Close everything all the time: RemoveBackground via Cydia.
 
I close all of mine several times a day.

I wish there was a way to actually close an app directly when you are finished, like holding down the home button for 2 seconds or something similar. It's annoying that an app stays open when I don't want it to, and I then have to press the home button once (to minimize the app), double click the home button, hold down an icon in the app switcher for a couple of seconds, and choose each app's delete x to ge rid of it.

I really only close games or apps that I don't often use. Unless, of course, an app is not responding, then I'll close it in the multitask bar and reopen it.

I prefer to leave apps I most commonly switch between down there so I can access them from other apps without needing to go home. I don't worry about battery because most of those apps aren't running or accessing background API's.

I wish Apple stuck with their plan to place a global search in the multitasking UI.
 
I close them because i like to have only the most used apps in there so i can easily switch between them, instead of having a infinite row of apps.
 
I close them after using, seems I'm still stuck back in the eighties when resources were minimal with electronics. My fiancée seems to think the same about my wallet.

It shouldn't be significant unless the app is actually doing something (the apps mentioned above -- music, streaming, if a social networking apps is able to update itself periodically from the background, etc.). For instance, if the mail application is set to check mail periodically or receive push, it actually uses a lot of battery, but my experience is that it uses almost nothing if it's set to check mail manually.

The main reason I do it is that, after a number of apps have been running, certain apps (NY Times is a real culprit) will crash on opening repeatedly. If I close all my apps, the NYT app launches. It's possible that the reason this fixes the problem is unrelated to the apps being in memory, but in any event, this seems to solve the problem, and I'm not aware of a better way to solve the problem, short of rebooting.

Same. I close all the apps I've used when I'm ready to lock my iPod up again / turn the screen off. So everytime I use my iPod, I close the apps I've just used, pretty much.

To nitbit even more, HDD is not an acronym it is an initialism.
 
The only app I force close is Motionx GPS. Kinda have to, eats away at your battery otherwise.

I never close any other apps.
 
I close them probably once a day. I used to close them manually one at a time, but that gets really cumbersome. Finally found out about RemoveBackground for SBSettings thru Cydia, and now it just takes a second. Closing apps makes a noticeable difference in the smoothness of the phone.
 
When I went to get my iPod serviced for battery trouble the genius actually asked me if I was closing the apps

No, it doesn't very well. I just had 3 apps in the recently opened bar - safari, app store, and a tower defense game. All were "suspended" and I had 107mb memory remaining. After closing all three, my free memory immediately increased to 251mb. Yeah, I think that can make a pretty big difference in how smoothly apps run.
