In other words, when you upgrade to the latest and greatest, if you don't sell your previous device, do you downgrade it to be just a music player (perhaps in a dock speaker in the living room or bedroom) or something else?

For example, I know of a few friends that since they upgraded to the 6+, their 4S' now reside at their front door at home which controls all the house lights. Another friend has his 5S magnetically mounted to his fridge door where he too can control the house lights but more interestingly has only food cooking apps and YouTube. Another friend has his 4S mounted in his shower which controls bluetooth speakers in the bathroom. Crazy ideas...

..Just wondering if anyone has interesting ideas for old devices, considering selling these old phones don't yield too much, especially if they have some damage.

Your friends all seem to be obsessed with remotely controlling their homes.

I feel using old iPhones as iPod music players docked to speakers seem to be the norm.

I personally have a jail broken iPhone 4 that is always connected to my flat screen TV and hence I mirror Netflix and YouTube. Obviously Apple TV does the same thing but this is somewhat... CheAper.

I sold my 4S to an Android user. He couldn't be happier (even with the "slow" iOS 8, which is still faster than Android ever was on his phone).

I can't wait to use 6 plus to control tea heater, iPad Air 2 to start stop leaf blower and mini to control pencil sharpner when they age out.

I sell or trade in my phones to offset the cost of the new phones.

My previous Iphone is bolted to the handlebar of my mountain bike. It run a couple of GPS bike apps Motion X GPS and Runtastic Mountain Bike pro. I have also given other models to family members.

I sell my old iphones, but I actually have an ipad 2 mounted in my living room. It controls my lights, security system, sound system, etc.

I've gotten rid of everything but an old 3Gs and my original iPhone. Using an old phone for an iPod seems to be the most common thing I hear people doing and what I would most likely do.

Since I have an iPod Touch, I'll probably just give my 5S to my best friend.. she dropped her phone in water and couldn't get another one (she has Straight Talk and has to buy them outright) so I'll just do that. I normally sell them though.

I thought I was going to use my Galaxy S3 as a music player after getting the iPhone 6. I realized pretty quickly with 2 iPads and my iPhone in the house that this was redundant. I'll eventually put it on Swappa and get what I can for it.

i sell them.

not gonna be a popular opinion, but it seems so ghetto/junky to use a phone for all tasks other than as a phone

I usually sell my old iPhone's to offset the cost of the new iPhone I get. However, I kept my 5s to use as my back up/travel phone since it's factory unlocked.

I'll probably sell my 6 prior to 6s being announced and just use my 5s until I get the new iPhone.
