Hey everyone

When you pick an iPhone case, do you ever get the leather ones with a card holder?

Do these cases actually work?

Thanks a bunch! Looking forward to your thoughts!

I buy folio style cases, but mainly for the screen protection and not as a wallet. I do use the slots on occasion, like for transit cards during travel, but not regularly at home.

The problem with most of them is that if they're used as intended, as a wallet, the cover doesn't close properly with the added thickness of the cards. And when they are made to take into account that bulk, they have excess material that makes for a poor fit when not used as a wallet, and the slots are empty.

Some designs try to address the situation by incorporating a clasp, but it adds to the fussiness and bulk.

The detachable 2-in-1 style cases as pictured add even more bulk, by wrapping the wallet portion around a full case in itself.

They can be useful, but the execution makes them more tricky, and not universally appealing.

best one i have seen (and bought for my wife as a Christmas present) is this one from Decoded.
super light.
and super easy to use just as a case by itself when at home/inside; and then just wrap the protecting folder wallet around it when you need to put your iPhone in a bag or backpack and want to protect the front display screen as well.
not bulky in either of the two modes.
space for 3 credit cards and cash.

for my own iPhone i have bought just the case itself from Decoded since i liked how thin the case is, even though its leather.
great and total protection for the full plateau area of all iPhone 17 models.
