I'm thinking about buying an iMac Extreme.. but.. with Macworld incoming in few weeks I'm asking if it's worth to wait.. Do you know if there's any rumors about an upgrade or change in the iMac line...? Thanks Valerio
Maybe a speed bump, but I think they'll leave them alone as it isn't very long since they last updated them. In fact all the bugs are only just about ironed out now They have much bigger priorities (I hope) such as the Mac Pro and the rumoured "Macbook Mini".
OTOH, if they're really going with Penryn and updating the MBP, wouldn't it make sense to also give the iMacs that bump? (Internals only, I mean) Personally I'm waiting for it too, though it might not be worth it
Some might say the Mac Pro should've received the same kind of hardware the iMac got, which in some areas is actually better specced. So I doubt it.
If there is any type of update it will be a minor one, and probably nothing worth waiting for at the end of the day. Perhaps a small speed boost or a new graphics card, but otherwise do not expect anything major for the iMac until several months from now when Penryn makes its way into the line-up. My $0.02.
The iMac seems to be in line BEHIND the MacBook Pro for the new Penryn CPUs and other tech (though it got PCIe FW first.) If they have the Penryn CPUs in quantity they may do both at once, but expect the iMac to happen a few weeks after the MacBook Pro. When the MacBook Pro gets changed, then you know you are in the hunt for an update.
Everyone has different needs and priorities. If this is one for you, then yes, perhaps you should wait to see if there is an update. If not though, don't get caught playing the waiting game!
No, I don't think so. In 2006 the white intel imacs were released in September. In December I decided I wanted one, but I waited until macworld 2007. No announcement. Then I waited till the next rumor date in February, then March, then May, then June. I waited till August, but got a whole new computer. Apple seems busier now a days and instead of speed bumping they just do yearly updates. This is why I doubt you'll see updates of August 2007 imacs. My exact experience last year to testify.
definetly not, they just introduced the new one a few months ago! If they do, I'll be mad, mine is only a few days old!
Couldn't you just return it within the 14 day return period or whatever and get the new one.... assuming something new does come out.
True, but you'd have to look into the fine print regarding the 15% restocking fee and how it applies.
