The iPhone XR launched at $699, but its successor, the iPhone 11 launched at $649, which was a much better deal. Now, the iPhone 12 series starts at $729, which seems a bit overpriced. $649 seems like a much more reasonable price for the Mini imo.

So, do you think Apple will reduce the price for the 2021 iPhones (non-Pros) like they did for the XR -> 11 release?

Increased price, maybe, but Apple didn’t get burned. On the contrary they’ve had massive success with the 12, just not so much with the cheapest in the range; they will have noticed. The premium phone market just doesn’t appear to be price sensitive and the reverse may be true, that having such an expensive gadget is of itself attractive.

I probably wouldn't expect a lower price until 5G becomes mature in Western countries. The iPhone 11 was a final bow before going to 5G.

In the East, where 5G is already mature, 5G is facing a price war with devices starting at $150.

I think it’ll stay the same for 2021. The 12 went up in price, but the 256GB and above configurations for the 12 Pro and Pro Max actually went down by $50. Pretty good strategy for them. Price the 12 close to the 12 Pro for the upsell. Of course, I would love to see prices come down though.

ROFL, lower? Timmy has no F’cks to give about Apple’s customers only profit, pandering to China and 🍆. I bet he loves eggplant.

Hence the high customer satisfaction with Apple products.

But nice trolling.

I think the last time iPhone retail prices dropped (launch price to launch price) was going from iPhone 6 to iPhone 7. Otherwise, prices have pretty much been the same or higher which I expect will happen for 2021.

It would be nice to see the prices come back down to iPhone 11 money. I paid £849 for my iPhone 12 and that was more than I really wanted to pay to be honest. I can’t see myself doing that every 2 years. If prices don’t go down, I may just go back to buying the older model. That’s the cool thing about the current technology. It changes so little each year. When I look at it, the iPhone 12 has two major marketing features that I have never used, MagSafe and 5G lol. I probably should have bought an 11 Pro.

Price will go up, that in-screen fingerprint scanner that I keep reading about will bump the price up plus the phone is apparently going thicker......bigger battery? Bigger more powerful magnets maybe?

The non pro prices have gone up (the iPhone 12 is $100 more than the launch price of the iPhone 11). So for 2021, I bet the Pro will get the price hike.

Apple knows what they're doing. Even with the price increase on the 12 and ditching the accessories, they have record-breaking quarterly revenue. The iPad Air price also went up. The iPad Pros imo will see a hike, along with the next round of Apple Silicon Macs (unlike the first batch of M1 Macs, imo the next batch of Apple Silicon Macs will be priced higher than the intel models they're replacing).

The mainstream iPhone price already went up by $100, so that's done. :)

It did. I probably won’t be buying at price again though. There is a limit where principle overtakes desire with consumer goods. I think as long as Apple offer the previous years models, that offsets any obligation to get the current devices for some.

Apple will get you in one way or another (eg. from storage upgrade). Most Android flagships start from 128GB base storage, but Apple intentionally kept 64GB as the base storage for the non Pros.

Oh they are definitely sneaky and underhand when it comes to storage options, especially the best selling models. I just mean i’ll probably go back to buying last years model to get a bit more for my money after this current upgrade.

Prices rarely go down on iPhones when they’re new
They can when Apple is in some sort of market pressure. Eg. the iPhone 11 launched at cheaper price than the iPhone XR launch price.

But seeing the record-breaking quarter after they INCREASED prices on iPad Air and iPhone 12, in a pandemic, Apple will likely continue raising prices as they see the market can still handle higher prices. I expect the 13 Pros getting a jump in price, along with the new iPad Pros and the new AS Macs.
