I have a 16" MacBook Pro that I got right at launch, and I really like the laptop, but I don't like the power supply at all. I keep my laptop in a thin bag and carry it with me a lot of places, and the bulky 96W Apple power supply drives me crazy. I also feel like it could crack the LCD because its like stuffing a rock in a flat bag.

Does anybody here have a recommendation for a smaller, better 3rd party option? Or a battery bank that's flat and light maybe?

Luke

This is what I use
Ravpower 90 watt Gan charger

the 61 watt is much smaller.here It can charge it fast with the machine in sleep, but if you're doing anything other light use, it won't be able to charge and run at the same time.

the pic below shows them both. The large white brick is the stock charger

It is up to you. Since it the connection is USB-C you can charge your MBP 16 with anything from a 30W to a 100W chargers. The lower wattage will charge slower and may not keep up with consumption, but I often just carry a single 45 W charger for all my USB-C devices (MBP 16 or MBP 13, S10+, iPad Pro) to reduce the bulk and clutter.

You can probably get away with a 60w adapter from anker. Light task should charge it while in use, and definitely will charge to full if the computer is in sleep.

I honestly use the 18w iPad charger and an anker 30w charger for my 16 in MacBook when it’s overnight due to when it’s convenient and it works. It probably took 6 hrs to charge it or more but it did it!

I often use the Apple 29W charger for my 16”. It will work in all my normal use cases. When loaded the MBP draws power from the battery.

I also have a very compact Satechi charger with two USB-C PD ports (60 and 18W) plus two USB-A ports. Very convenient for travelling.

Check your power draw and pick something that gives you your average power draw at least, that may be as low as 10W.

Thanks everyone. I also often use an 18W iPad Pro charger, as well as the 30w that came with my MacBook Air overnight. I’ll still probably get one of the recommended ones above because the 30 and 61w are lighter but still just as “fat.”

Here’s what my wife uses when traveling as she wants it skinny. It can charge my mbp 16 overnight easily but can slowly charge it when it’s on vs the lower watt chargers which just basically act like battery extenders rather than chargers. The 18/29/30 Watt chargers imho are just too weak for the mbp 16.

That’s exactly the type of design I’m looking for. Might have to try one of those.

Fantastic! I was looking for a slim one for my bag also. Thanks for the link.

Got it today. It's really small, and feels so much better in my bag. When using my laptop heavily, it seems to pretty much stop the battery drain, and it reports itself as charging but doesn't seem to be. It gets hot though. While the laptop is asleep, it charged quite fast. I'm happy with it and will bring it along with me when I carry my MacBook Pro somewhere, and keep the 96W monster at home in my office for heavy lifting.

Nice! Just ordered one. Thanks for the update.

+1 for the HyperJuice 100W GaN usb-c charger. Awesome to travel with so I can charge my MBP, wife's 12" and a couple of iPhones if needed (typically one computer and two iPhones simultaneously).
