I remember switching from Sprint due to a horrible customer service experience and going to AT&T for the original iPhone back in Feb 2008.

I remember after the 3GS released in 2009 the iPhone commercials showing off being able to talk on the phone via while surfing the web to look things up via 3G and touting "can YOUR phone on YOUR carrier do that" which was clearly aimed at VZW and Sprint since phones could not do both at once via CDMA.

I remember the antennagate fiasco shortly after the iPhone 4 dropped and Apple holding a special event conference for SJ to take the stage to explain/defend. Was it due to the iPhone 4 antenna design or due to AT&T's network?

I remember VZW finally getting iPhone 4 in early 2011 and Spring joining in at the release of iPhone 4S in fall 2011.
You're holding it all wrong:D

I switched to AT&T for the iPhone, and they had me as a customer all the way up to Friday. I suspect that story is true for a lot of people. Great deal for AT&T. For Apple to as well I suppose. Though I wonder if Android would have been able to get a foothold had Apple brought the iPhone to more carriers earlier on. Of course, Apple had no idea any of this would happen at the time. I seem to remember them hoping to capture something like 1 or 10 percent of the cell sales. Wow.

And years later here we are with 512gb $1500 devices on 5 carriers.(Comcast now). lol

Holy crap, you’re holding it all wrong. Hahaha so funny how blame was being thrown around and then to us, the user.. lol

Yes I remember that, SJ tweeted that as a response to someone, right?

I also remember they quickly addressed that with a new antenna system for the 4S the following year.

I also remember in the early days of the original iPhone, AT&T wanted to use the iPhone in its own commercials, to tout their data network, even though iPhone was EDGE only at the time. SJ denied them doing that because "why put lipstick on a pig?"

So it’s looks like Gen 1 was in 2007 before the 3g... man 16gb was the top storage option! 128MB of Ram! Hahaha

At the time, I actually worked for At&t. When it was still Cingular. Was crazy when it first came out. Lines for that phone were insane. Was also interesting back then trying to explain to people that if you buy an iPhone at the time. You had to get a data plan. So much push back from that. People at the time would say they just want the phone. They don’t need the data package. Good times lol.

They sold 6.1 million of there first ever release of Gen 1. That’s crazy! Now it’s what 200ish million. 3.5’ screen, man no wonder most of us need glasses.

Hmm.... it was a while ago.

Was the 4s out later that fall? It seems like that’s when I remember getting it. Maybe I just assumed the 4 was out a year prior....
Yes. The iPhone 4 was the longest running phone at 15 months. It launched in June of 2010 and the iPhone 4s was the first to launch in September (and every one since has been announced in September).

I still remember the 4s launch. I recall rumors were there would be an iPhone 5 with a bigger screen and 4G LTE and then a 4s. Reality was we only got a 4s.

It's fun to reminisce.

There was a ton of dissent. Some was justified. For example, the lack of 3G made data speeds horrible. Also, the one carrier was a risk that eventually paid off but caused some confusion at first. Third, the price on the original iPhone with two year contract was insane. It wasn't until the 3G that the price actually became more reasonable.

The 3GS was the first fully formed iPhone IMHO

I had AT&T as my carrier when the iPhone was announced but didn’t get one until the iPhone 4. I used a blackberry because that’s the only device my company would support for email because of security. They didn’t consider the iPhone handling of exchange secure, but when the iPhone 4 came out they supported a third party email and calendar app and The day they started supporting that app (can’t remember the name but it sucked) I walked to AT&T at lunch and bought the 4.

Your dates and memories are really good, however...

We actually had to wait a bit longer for the 4s as it wasn’t announced until a month later in October of 2011.

That was one long wait...

I actually just saw that. I forgot how late that was. I didn't buy the 4s as I got the 4 as my first iPhone in like April of 2011. There were rumors on this site in September 2011 about how there would only be one small iPhone.

Yes, I remember. Thought nothing of it until I decided to get an iPhone late in 2009 (3GS).

Switched from AT&T to Verizon once the iPhone 6s was released (I was burned on my mint condition iP5 trade in at AT&T).

Trade-ins is the worst thing we can do.. great for them. They can make double off a device

I thought that the iPhone remained an at&t exclusive until the iPhone
First iPhone came out in 2007 and AT&T had exclusivity to the iPhone up until the iPhone 4.

Edit: typo... came*

I had the original iPhone with at&t until the 4s, I switched to Verizon.
This is almost correct. ATT had an exclusive contract for five years, 2007 to 2011. The Verizon iPhone 4 launched in January 2011 with a new color (white) after the ATT iPhone 4 launched in 2010.
