I have a few skeletons, but it is way too embarassing to bring them to the light of day.
But I do have a few stories that came to light in our family tree.
1. My great uncle was kidnapped during the depression. They thought my grandfather had lots of $ and would pay the ransom. My grandfather had a nice big house, but no cash. My great uncle was such a miserable s.o.b. that the kidnappers gave up after two days and let him go!
2. An ancestor during the Revolutionary war sided with the rebels. The rebels would steal horses from the tories for use in the war. So, in fact, one of my ancestors was a horse thief! He met an unfortunate end, he was killed by a group of tories while he was on leave to plant the fields.
3. Another ancestor was a woman who landed with her husband on the east coast in the early 1600's. They landed in a relatively isolated area. They were attacked by local indians. Her husband was killed. She was severely beaten, but an older woman in the tribe had compassion on her and nursed her back to health. She eventually got to civilization, and later married again and raised a family.
4. One relative was in the German royal family in the 1800s. She fell in love with a man, but her family did not approve. She left, married her man, and immigrated to the US. The family back home disinherited her and broke off all contact.
Crazy goings on!
