Or is it a waste of disposable income better served on a riding lawnmower?

Riding mower tip: The huge front bumpers may cost a lot, but boy are they nice when you hit a tree.

Man, my girlfriend and I sleep on a FULL sized bed, with a 90 pound Golden retreiver (the big baby!!!!).. That ****ing thing was so godamn small. I swear to God... I ended up sleeping sitting up half of the nights.

Then her ex-employers gave us their guest-room Queen sized bed. Needless to say, I don't look like Leon: The Professional anymore, cos I actually have room to lay down, and sleep, without the dog sleeping on my legs, and my girfriend snoring in my ear...

It's a Posture-pedic. Pretty nice. It was used for a whole two weeks since they've owned it (in two years). AWESOME.

I did wonder about this sleep number thing, now... I don't want one.. Can I take my vote back?

Hitting stuff in riding mowers SUCKS. I got one high centered on a stump once. Damn that was a really bad afternoon.

I think my parents' Sleep Number bed is really comfy. Ours feels more like a fancy air mattress so I'm a bit disappointed in it, but still like it. I wake up FAR less achy than I did when sleeping on the rock we had before. The hubby and I have briefly discussed adding a memory foam pillowtop to ours, but we'll see. Maybe the next mattress we get will be a TP, but that will be a ways down the road.

Well, we finally got our sleeper sofa with air mattress into our guest room/office downstairs. It entailed paying someone a reasonably small sum of money to take it apart and move it down there, since it was too large to fit fully assembled, but it was worth it.

It's not the same as a Sleep Number bed, I'm sure, but it's orders of magnitude nicer than a traditional sleeper sofa. The air mattress is built-in and it comes with a pump that inflates it in about 30 seconds. It's pretty easy to adjust the firmness, but only overall (unless one of you is significantly larger than the other, which would, I suppose, shift things a little).

That being said, get a riding lawn mower. And the trailer attachment. Trust me, you won't regret it. Then just buy sleeping pills and you won't notice the mattress.

so what kind did you end up deciding on?

i have been looking into other mattresses because i'm a light sleeper and my husband kicks his feet sometimes in his sleep. (i don't think it's sleep apnea, in case anyone wondered) i heard the sleep number beds are decent in that regard (muffling the movements of annoying bed partners) but it's not as adept as the tempurpedic mattresses.
my mother (and her husband) have a sleep number bed and they love it. none of the problems i read in this thread. <shrugs>

We ended up buying a new matress from The Original Matress Factory for a steal. To that we'll add a 4.2LBS memory foam core topper (you can get it off ebay for $69, and it's WORTH IT). That way I can thrash around in my sleep and not wake up my wife.

Will be heading to John Deere this weekend. :)
