What's that, can you explain more? Alternative to Parallels etc?

Sort of. Instead of actually running Windows in a virtual machine, Wine is an alternative implementation of the Windows APIs (functions that the operating system provides for applications, e.g., graphics, sound, input, etc.).

It's a way to basically run Windows software as native software on a Mac. It can sometimes work very well. But there are sometimes compatibility issues since it's not actually Windows.

Thanks, you certainly got me interested.
Just found this tutorial, something to try out when I got a bit of time on hand:

I've not been a mac owner since the PowerPC to Intel switch. I just stole a Mac Pro on ebay that will replace my Linux/hackintosh Z600 and since I'm kind of an all in guy I'm pondering replacing my Latitude with a MBA. Those that are out of the honeymoon phase is there anything you regret about your MBA purchase? If so what?
Bought a late 2013 rMBP. I regret that I chose 13" instead of 15".

@motrek gave a great explanation for what WINE is.

One of the great things about Wineskin Winery is that it can generate a standalone executable file that contains all of the bits and configuration settings required for that app. That means that I can copy that single file to another OSX device and have it run no-muss-no-fuss.

Another benefit to running Windows apps under WINE (if they'll run) is that it doesn't require the installation of Windows (and the associated need for a license).

Note: Codeweavers CrossOver is the commercial implementation of Wineskin Winery.

None. I have an 11 inch 2014 MBA. It works exactly how I want it to. I'm light user so for me it's fast enough. I've bought an external hard drive to expand my storage space but I've not had to use it yet.

Before I bought it I pondered over the 13 inch but now I know the 11 inch was the right choice. I've since used the 13 inch and I find it cumbersome.

I bought a new 2014 base 11" at BB because the price was so low with a movers coupon and a sale price, paying $720. I use it as an adjunct to my mac mini desktop. (I also have a 2010 mbp 15"). I think i use the mba mostly for entertainment purposes (movies, tv, browsing, email, research, and Word. I have it set up almost like my samsung note pro tablets. Admittedly, the screen is the only (minor) downside. Once the price drops to a reasonable level, i'll replace the mba with the rmb. But for now, the mba is a light, thin, fast, full blown computer that can do anything i need.

I have a rmba and two 11 inch mba (one of them had to go to warranty, bad luck) but I have no regrets at all. I love the display and performance of the 13 inch retina, and I adore the portability and usability of the 11 inch air. I have no regrets. But I do have worries. Worries that Apple may phase out the 11" in favor of the new MacBook. Don't get me wrong, I like how that looks. But nothing will feel as awesome as the 11 inch with that multitude of ports, a keyboard that is such a joy to use, and overall design of the device. Yes, the display is below average, but that's a tradeoff I'm happy to make.

I share your fear. Everytime I have the opportunity I type a few words on the RMB and I still sincerely hate that keyboard. For those fine with typing on a touch screen it might be ok, for me it is not. May my 11" live on forever :)

I meant retina mbp. Sorry.

I wish Apple doesn't kill off the 11-inch. I'm writing this from my Retina MacBook Pro and I still think for on-the-go work nothing can beat the 11-inch. What made you buy the Retina MacBook, though? Assuming that you had the chance to try out the keyboard before you bought.

No regrets!

My 2011 MBA 13" just celebrated its 4th anniversary, and although it has taken a lot of beating it is still running strong.

You misunderstood me there, I have not bought a Retina Macbook - just tried it out numerous times in the Apple Store and other shops. I want to like that new keyboard (since I am fearing that this might become standard on other Macs too) but it always feels like typing on an iPad which is tedious.
