i buy all electronics on my AMEX card. They give you an additional 1 year warranty on electronics for free.

Between the year that Apple gives and the year that AMEX gives, i think I'm ahead of the game after 2 years.

...

I did until mid-August last year when the three years were up on the 2010 iMac AC.

The one time I did not buy AC with a dud refurb, I got burned. For me, it's a given to buy AC with any Apple product.

Got it for my Macbook Air last fall...would do it again in a heartbeat.

The peace of mind is worth it to me. I don't sell my laptops and usually use them for 3-4 years before upgrading so I wanted it covered as long as possible.

Are there disadvantages to buying AC from somewhere other than the Apple retail store?

I have it for my iPad. I worry someone will drop it and damager the screen, even though its covered by a case.

Usually I don't buy them, but I did buy one for my rMBP after it's screen started to fail, and got one for the iPhone 5S (the thing might be too light). Before giving an iPad as gift, I got one on there as well.

Best thing was getting them on discounts.

I had it on my iPhone 4 and I actually needed to use it. The phone had a weird intermittent problem where people couldn't hear me during a phone call; so they swapped it out for a new phone. Lately I haven't bothered with it since I don't keep my phones long enough and I take very good care of my laptop.

Yes, for every laptop.
I have used applecare every single time.
Just changed my power brick last week, in mail exchange, no questions asked!
In this laptop:
-Hinges tightened,
-Top case (dropped tea, but without activating any spill sensor!!!)
-Powerbrick
-Probably a new motherboard in before it expires (2011 mbp with video problems)

I would say, that applecare for laptops is a must. Here in Europe, maybe not, because you have a base 2 year warranty. So it's only for 1 extra year.

The other thing about applecare, it's worldwide!

I bought this machine in Canada, repaired it in Chile, and now exchanged my power supply in France. Try to find that in other brands!

Yep, I'm a big fan of Apple Care, especially on my phone. I pride myself on babying my electronics but about 3 months in I dropped and cracked my display. I backed up, made an appointment and was out in about 20 minutes. (They were about 10 minutes late but it was crazy busy). Cost me $49. While I was in there a lady was freaking out about having to pay $200 for her replacement, claiming that the salesperson "should have tried harder to sell me AppleCare because I would have bought it if I knew it would cover this!!" :roll eyes:

On a side note, a relative of mine got insurance through Verizon for something like 10 bucks a month ($240/ 2 years) and went through hell to get a replacement. Even with the insurance it cost like $180 to get a replacement that had little nicks and scratches all over it! She showed it to me and there was even a missing tiny screw on the bottom. My replacement was absolutely pristine.

I purchased applecare+ on my wifes iPhone 5 on launch day and I know the deductible went up this past iPhone release....would I be paying $50 or the higher $80? if I used one of my replacements now?

I generally get AC for laptops and I sometimes get it for iPhones. It really saved us on my son's MBP.

Oh I absolutely do! I worked at one of the retail stores for four years, so you can imagine how many reasons I saw come into the store to get AppleCare. I have it on most of my devices. I usually wouldn't do it on an iPod since it doesn't have the accidental damage coverage and thats usually the only reason an iPod may break (in my experience) I always get it on iPhones since I am really rough with them. I've definitely taken advantage of that this year. It is a given for the laptops or desktops. It may not have the accidental coverage, but I still think it is worth it to handle any issues for three years. I am just about to take my 13" MBPr to get the display replaced. If I didn't have AppleCare that would have been an easy $700. I've been lucky in a sense to need to take advantage of it. I know there are many people who refuse to buy it because they never have computer issues... I'm glad that works for you, but I feel weird without AppleCare. :apple::D
