So the day they came back it was April 1st, April Fool's/Apple B-Day. They took their flight back and during the flight the main pilot yelling "WE'RE GOING DOWN!". April Fools..

Sorry... but I call bull on this one. There's no way any professional in the airline industry would risk the general panic a call like this would cause

Exactly what I was about to say. I think your friend may be having you on.

You read my mind. No way. Not even the inebriated would be that out of line.

yeah you are right... that would be ridiculous, and the pilot would be fired before they landed

Every year since I was 5 years old I've been flying. And I LOVE IT. It was the greatest thing ever for me! But until Nov. last year my flight back to the USA is when my love for flying died. The flight was SO BAD, the trublance was the wrost ever, I seriously thought it was going to crash. Not only that, but there was hardly anyone on the plane and the tv screens in front wouldnt work at all. And when it was an hour before landing time the captain said that we're going to have to wait because there was a strom at the newark airport. So we had to fly around until it was safe to land, and during that time was when the turblance was the wrost!
So the whole year until May I didnt want to HEAR about flying again. I got chills when I thought about flying back to europe in the summer. That flight just totally freaked me out.
But may came and I had to fly to France and the flight to France was absoutly AMAZING. It was the new boeing 777 and not a bump was felt! The plane was so beautiful too. The seats comfy, everything was just so nice. The bathrooms bigger, the tvs screens worked. Lots of leg room, it was just great! The view was AWESOME! When we flew over green land you could see EVERYTHING. Not a cloud in the sky! The most beautiful view I've ever seen from a plane. After that flight, again I love to fly! haha
But still there is that feeling that you get when you fly, the whole "what if" thing. But its not going to stop me from traveling the world!

Ya, most everyone seems to be fine with flying. The real question should be "Do you have fear of crashing?"

Yup, a variation on an old flying joke: "Flying isn't dangerous. Crashing is dangerous."

Here are a couple of my favourite shots from a regular airliner when coming into San Francisco

Yes.... Though I have nevr flown, I don't have any intention to anytime soon. I know everyones says "It's much safer then driving", but at least with driving I have SOME control over my life and what happnes to me, what am I susposed to do 5 miles up in the air if the plane starts to crash???

Look out the window wait untill you notice the plane is about to hit annnd JUMP. Or you could throw a major freak fest.

...I took a plane from Canberra to Sydney and the the whole takeoff was so perfect I fell asleep and woke up when the plane stopped in Sydney...

I've flown several hundred thousand miles in the past 7 years, and depending on how long is the flight, I tend to sleep through most of it. I am usually asleep when the plane takes off, and there have been several flights (esp. the Seattle -> Miami redeye, which I have to take very often) where I fall asleep as soon as I sit down, and wake up when the plane lands.
Recently, on a flight between Hong Kong and LAX, I sleep for over 10 hours straight!
Then again, I am the type of person that falls asleep anywhere, it doesn't matter if there's noise, light, etc. :D

i dont really have a fear of flying... i just hate it cuz its such a freaking process

I'm there with you. I go through US airports several times a month, and the whole process of going through immigration and security has become really annoying. I've lost several connections because of the delays there. Luckily the airlines always book you on the next flight, or arrange your connections so you get to your destinations ASAP.

You must be the originator of the "crashing-elevator-save yourself" method. :p

I secretly hate flying. All those shows I have seen keep re-occuring in my head as I fly. All those disaster documentaries and what not. Then I bought an iPod. It sort of helped. But I still fly whenever it is nessesary. I just swallow my fear and step on board.

I'd have to say it's take off. Once we level off in the air I'm fine. Decent is no problem, but there is something about take off that seems to freak me out at times.

The worst airplane experience: When moving to Cyprus for a few months flying Cyprus airways from Heathrow to Larnaca. During the middle of the flight (bout 2 am) all of the sudden I get this falling feeling. and holy crap we actully where gonig down  Everyone started to freak out on the plane. The lights turned off for some reason and only made it worse. So I'm strapped to my seat free falling and thinking holy **** this is it... Then after what seemed like an eternity the captain gets on the intercom. "Uh, sorry about that it appears we were directed into the oncoming path of another plane..." For ****s sake. scared the living **** out of me. "So we had to take 'evasive' menuevers.'" Has this ever happened to you? The pilot says we were directed into another plane going 400mph 3 miles high... how the heck do you happen to almost run into another plane??!?!?!?! Stupid airtower controlers. wake up and drink some coffee. that scared the living **** ouf of me.
~true story, ask my brother he'll vouch for me.

I love flight. It is such an incredible experience. The feeling is somewhat indescribable.

I am more bothered by the cramped space and noise on a plane than the actual flying itself.
Yeah, I hate cramped seats. I was drooling over the super-duper seats on British Airways when we flew on the 777 (which is awesome). Of course, when we flew back, we got the back section of a 747, and the ****ing air circulation vents weren't working.
I just it wasn't almost $300 round trip Providence <-> Baltimore on the Acela.

jesus christ
if that happened to me I would seriously get a heart attack and die.
sometimes I'm more scared of being scared on a plane than actually crashing :/

So very true.

Pink Floyd said, "...A fatal attraction holding me fast, how
Can I escape this irresistible grasp?..."

And:

"...Cant keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I"

Not at all. With the high security I assume nothings gonna go wrong.

Except when I say things like the above it usually does the opposite. I might not be here in a few months. :D

Do you fear flight sometimes. I am most comforatble in the air, and at landing, but takeoff its one of my goals. Sometimes when we start going really fast, I sort of yell in my mind; STOP THE PLANE!

and then the front lifts up and I feel better already.:)

I'm the same.

Fine when the plane is in the air, but extremely nervous during take-off, it's far too noisy!

Sleeping on flights

Here are 12 good suggestions to help with sleeping on flights. If you notice, most experienced flyers will get about 15-20 good minutes just prior to, during, and after take off. Ear plugs help greatly, especially if there are *CB's in the immediate vicinity.
