The declining deductible is a feature of AT&T's version of mobile insurance with Asurion. I don’t think it’s available with Version. The AT&T insurance also covers screen repairs for $89.00
Do you have renters or home owners insurance? I asked mine and was told my devices are covered for theft at full replacement value, minus my deductible. I’m not sure it covers loss though, since there’s no police report. And of course, accidentally damage is not covered, therefore I also pay for the AT&T insurance and no AC+.
Most of you guys have contents insurance, in most cases they will cover phones for loss and accidental damage - check your policy before you waste money on insurance provided by your telco.
Yeah, I have homeowners insurance, but it only is covered if it gets stolen from your house, correct?
That depends on your policy. My homeowners insurance allows ‘valuables’ and personal electronic devices to be taken out of the house and abroad. Very useful as besides my phone I normally have my camera, iPad, laptop etc with me...
Usually it will be covered wherever you take it. It’ll be covered for accidental damage as well as theft.
All my stuff is covered laptops, phones, watches, cameras even when I’m not at home - I even have a “new for old” clause, where my stuff will be replaced with brand new stuff rather than a market value payout.
You need to look at your insurance policy or contact your insurer for clarification on exactly what’s covered, where and under what circumstances. For instance, any business use would disqualify it, you might have to declare the item if it’s over a certain threshold (ie max phone cover $500, unless agreed by them). Cyb3rdud3 says he can take his stuff abroad, my policy explicitly says I wouldn’t be covered... You need to be 100% sure about all these things.
Then there are other questions: what is the excess with your contents insurance vs claiming with your carrier? Will claiming for your phone increase your premiums? Which will be easier and more convenient?
Some credit card automatically give you extended warranties and insurance coverage on items purchased with them, so you could even be protected by that.
