I've had a few issues due to pilot error, but nothing that was Apple's fault.

Silly me forgot I was on my Panther HD running Disk Utility and for some stupid reason decided to Verify the Disk of my Tiger HD, the Tiger drive came up showing
an error, so really stupid me repaired the Tiger drive from the Panther drive.

Next thing you know I've got a B tree error and the Tiger Drive wouldn't mount.

Thank goodness for Data Rescue II

Now both drives are up to date running 10.4.7

The only other problem I had was activating File Vault after I already had over 47 GB's of stuff on my drive.
It got stuck on 5 seconds to go for over 24 hours.
By some strange miracle, I finally gave up and quit.
When I booted up again, File Vault Was acitvated.

I had to un-do File Vault to run ProTools M-Powered.

Never again.

Yes, a huge, major, stop the freaking world problem!
I bought my first Mac in January, a 20" iMac. After working with Mac OSX for a few months, I was forced to go out and buy a Black MacBook so I could use Mac OSX when I travel! Now I sit here comtemplating a new 80 Gig iPod! My credit card is posed for Leopard, iPhone, and a Video iPod! I have resigned myself to living in poverty for the rest of my life! (But I'll have some killer tech! :D )

My Intel Mac freezes on rare occasions. But I only notice because none of my PowerPC macs ever did.

Starting to feel weird about my PB it makes funny noises. Forst off is a scratching sound from under the case possibly HDD, (not clilcking like normal HDD behaviour) like a CD scratches. It lasts only for a second and things become quiet again. Second is, i hear a sound which can be described as a marble dropping to the floor and bouncing. Also for a second and things become quiet again.

Maybe the HDD is failing but all diagnostic software report that everything is fine. We'll see.....

I think the only problem I experience are the whine with my MBP. I also had a Macbook before this MB and it was perfect except for the discoloraton issue which apple took care of without problems.

Yer darn tootin'

Buying your first Mac is like thinking you'll be O.K. trying a little crack.

About half of my problems with my PowerBook are self-induced. The loss of my hard drive and subsequently mic/sound in short succession after the warranty expired was very inconvenient.

I had a hard drive failure and pitting stains on my 12 inch powerbook. Nothing extreme. My "new" tibook has had no problem yet.

OMG, yes. I think 2 of my ~14 Macintosh computers have had bad problems over the last 22 years. 1 was this year (MB, fixed), the other one was around 1994 (IIsi?, died). And one other one (PB1400) wasn't as fast as I wished! Now I'm really angry!

Yeah, so the OS is amazing, the hardware is perfect, but $%^# YOU M-AUDIO MAKE DRIVERS THAT WORK WITH MY OS X!!!

Yeah, my G4 mini is perfect, except the audio drivers never work properly. They make a stuttering noise (much like what iTunes 7 likes to do, only system wide) and if I don't re-set the sound, after a while it locks up the system. Oh well, that's life I guess.

The old ones are the best?

I switched to mac about 18 months ago. First machine was one of the dreaded G5 1.8 singles (i bought refurb) with the quicktime freeze problem. I badgered apple for nigh on 4 months until they agreed to replace it with a brand new dual core g5 2gz. I was happy, and did pretty well considering i had no applecare, never paid for one of those £35 phone calls and they released the firmware fix a week after i got my new machine hehe. But it was a painful experience i can tell you that.

I picked up a 4 yr old titanium powerbook last year for £350 off ebay (nice example of the once top spec 800mhz). I can say with all honesty this thing has never ever crashed. ever. and its still the most beautiful laptop ever made. Now my main machine (sold g5 a week b4 mac pro released to get max return), driving a 20" monitor and loving it. So maybe the old ones are the greatest? After all my ti would have been over £2500 list when it was released, can't really compare that to a £700 macbook for quality i guess.

I'm hovering over the intel models. almost bought the mbp but all the problems put me off. same with the mb. now looking to see if the 24" imac has any issues.

All in all apple make great quality products. 3 ipods, never had an issue. and the service, whilst you have to argue your corner (which is fine i'm a lawyer) is great i think.

Most of the problems listed here are simply software problems that i can guess are caused by programs conflicting. Having used macs all my life which though not that long i have used an LC, a G3 266, a G4 quicksilver, an ibook, mac mini, and currently an macbook. I can safely say that since Mac OS X, stability has decreased drastically compared to Mac OS 9 as it reached near perfection in its later years. I have had my fair share of problems and have known it to be my fault nearly all of the time. I can accept that some problems are not the users fault and that this may be solely my opinion. But treat it right and it will treat you right.
